Bio

What was to become 12 Fluid Ounces started out as an assignment between two friends (Bruce and Kyle) for a high school creative writing class. After this fortuitous catalyst, the band officially began in early 2005 with the addition of another friend (Scott Dunn). Thanks to an internship at Tulsa-based Yellow Dog Studios, the trio was able to record their first, self-released EP, Seems To Be, in the summer of 2005. At the time, this EP was a big milestone for the band, but now it serves more as a point of reference showing how far the band has come. Since coming to college in the fall of 2005, the trio (formerly known as The KB Experience featuring Scott Dunn) added a full time bassist and drummer in order to add additional depth and fullness to their sound. In this time, they have created well over 30 original songs and have played twice as many live shows for all types of crowds and venues. Last Spring, the band began recording their second EP at Studio 7 in Oklahoma City. This sophomore attempt clearly shows how much the band has grown and evolved, highlighting their desire for original and diverse music.

With a foundation of both classically and unconventionally trained musicians, the creative roots of the band run deep. These Tulsa natives have a distinct style of music that draws from their vast influences, both musical and otherwise. From these diverse influences, they create a potent mixture of musical genres and styles, incorporating everything from rich acoustic tunes to tap dancing to various jazz styles and indigenous South American instruments. They compliment this rich sonic palate with healthy amounts of improvisation -- keeping their music in constant, fluid motion. The atmosphere they create with their music elevates the listening experience beyond the normal mode of auditory captivation. With eyes closed and body moving, the listener is moved from contemplative expanses, to feelings of love and happiness.
