Formed by brothers Andrew and David Voigt in late 2011, 1491 is a band based out of Portland, Oregon that is dedicated to creating their own unique brand of dance music. Drawing upon Madchester house, Techno, Balearic, and the Prince-era Minneapolis sound, 1491 combines disparate dance influences with metal-influenced guitar work that sets them apart from other electronic acts.
Since joining forces the Voigt Brothers have been focused on writing and recording as much as possible to establish and hone in on their voice as a band, resulting in two separate releases. The self-produced and recorded Everyone Knows But You EP, and the Covers EP: on which they re-imagine songs by Don Henley, Andrew WK and Smashing Pumpkins:
In the past year they have also been developing their live show on the Portland house party circuit as well as local clubs such as Ella St. Social Club and Valentine’s. Combining prerecorded elements with a high-energy live performance, 1491 taps into the best of both worlds - a hybrid of the EDM DJ culture and the traditional rock band.
