"DJ 1984 – Lost Tapes II (Beat Tape)"

Los Angeles native DJ 1984 has steadily made a name for himself in the underground scene, and today we'd like to shed some light on the up-and-coming producer. Most recently releasing his Lost Tapes II beat tape, the producer/DJ formally played bass in The Knux's live band, before really taking things serious behind the mixing board. The latest beat tape features a collection of unique production in which he flips some familiar and some unfamiliar samples, creating tunes liable to get the most hardcore hip-hop head to infectiously nod along to. Up top you can view the visual component for his Biggie-sampled instrumental "Tape Rock," and down below you can stream the mixtape in its entirety. - Hypetrak

Bio

Nineteen Eightyfour is the sound of tomorrow, today. A bomb shelter constructed within the streets of Los Angeles, built under a foundation of Hard Rock, within barracks of computer-assisted synths and drum machines, riddled by the Funk of Humanity and with the cooperation of New Wave technology, their timeless assembly of style cuts through waves of enemies and allies alike.
Founded by Dj/Producer Dave Zee, the first incarnation of the project was a rare collection of soul-inspired instrumentals made on the road while traveling as the touring guitarist of the Knux, giving him the opportunity to perform at such festivals as Bonnaroo, SXSW, and countless college towns within the US along with appearances on the Carson Daly show. Once returning to the East La area, he released the first of the Lost Tapes series to a well receiving scene of "beat-making" revelers and hip hop fans. Continuing to Dj weekly as a resident at such taste making venues as Harvard & Stone, Broadway Bar, and Mercy Hollywood. He founded the " Uptown Soundclash" monthly beat showcase nights booking talents such as Dj Houseshoes (Detroit/La), Jon Wayne (La/Stonesthrow), Willie B and Skyhutch (TDE/Schoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar's producers) and more. This led him to strategize the next battle plan- Nineteen Eightyfour as a live band.
Enter James Torres, of the methodical yet volatile Funeral Party, committing to the pre-emptive strike while off duty from countless European tours and festivals. His continued devotion to create and craft alternative strategies within music, as well as develop an innovative approach to the guitar led him to join the newly formed live band to promote its first official release, the widely accepted and acclaimed "Body Language" EP pressed on a limited run of 7' 45 rpm vinyl records. They are currently performing throughout the southwestern United States, building an allegiance within the finest acts and promoters of the dance music scene and receiving a warm welcome by the progress hungry population.
