Kendrick Franklin, 33

It has often been said that the one uniting language is music, and in a world full of harsh realities for many music is some times the only escapism. That statement is especially true for Kendrick “1Bread” Franklin. As a child Kendrick found his expression through music, namely Hip Hop. With artist like The Fat Boys as inspiration Kendrick knew music was his refuge. Kendrick grew up as an only child and as a substitute for quiet times he found himself spitting rhymes in promptly. This was his norm and it wasn’t until years later when done in front of crowds that he realized he had stumbled upon a gift. Kendrick began being invited to different parties to perform, being offered cash prizes, and battling various neighborhood rappers. As his he began to hone his talents, his passion for music grew more intense.

In about 2002, Kendrick finally stepped into the studio. The challenges of the streets in addition to the ability to freestyle had met its match. Once he found himself surrounded by other artist and began studying his creative peers, he discovered it was best if his natural talent became recorded. This discovery prompted Kendrick to become more than a street’s rapper but an actual writer. Within a year, he found himself wanting to venture out into the business format of his passion by creating his own record label. His label “M1Ent.” allowed him the liberation of being able to work his own craft for his own gain. As the years progressed Kendrick continued to create wider avenues for himself with performances and marketing of his work. In recent years he’s found himself still committed to his music but open to other projects including acting. When asked where he sees himself in 5 year, he says its best described with one word “successful”. As Kendrick’s book continues to be written, one thing is for sure its guaranteed to keep the reader turning the page.
