"about 200 Million Years"

“Like most atmospheric bands of the last decade and a half, 200 Million Years definitely learned a thing or two from Radiohead’s penchant for mixing ambitions pop music with a deep experimental streak. The act also probably gleaned a bit from Sigur Rós and its ability to blur the line between a sense of dreaming and the rush of wakefulness...a group with boundless creativity, diverse influences, and the potential for some very fresh sounds.” - Tom Murphy, Westword - Denver Westword

Bio

200 Million Years’ self-titled EP was released on March 5, 2010 on the Great White North label. Recording began in October 2009, in the living room of a bungalow house at 6th & Galapago. It was during that time that the group cultivated their distinct, sophisticated sound, and refined their use of electronic media. 200‘s musical identity was carved out via these sessions.

The group was formed by Zale Hassler and Alejandro Sanchez in October of 2008. After the two met, they immediately began making and recording music together, and creating a series of short silent films that would accompany and accent their songs. Shortly after Zale and Alejandro founded the group, they met drummer Carl Sorensen (Eleanor, Andrea Ball), whose like-mindedness and forward thinking made him an immediate and perfect fit for 200 Million Years. In March 2009, after a show, the band met singer/songwriter Ellison Park (then playing as a solo act), and their musical chemistry was apparent. Overwhelmed with work and other commitments, Sanchez had to leave the band, but remains in close contact with them, and is an integral part of creating the haunting visuals used at their live performances.

200 Million Years’ sound is a well-crafted musical diorama that seeks to bring their audience into a universe where reality is fashioned both by the band and the unique emotions of each listener. Their self-titled EP is available for download at 200millionyears.bandcamp.com.
