Bio

December's Child
A Tigerbeat Biography

December 1996: Singer/ guitarist Frehn Hawel and drummer Sven Elsner decided to do some musical things together. They quickly created a number of songs influenced by the then booming blues-infiltrated New York indierock scene, incorporating soulfulness as well as their unique pop-appeal. Shortly with bassist added, the band called themselves "brenda" and was taking its first steps. After the bass player quit and a lukewarm start, the band was ready to start again with Daniel Schlott on guitar. His big Fender amp sounded so powerful that he had no problem replacing those lower frequencies.

December 1997 with the ideal players in place the band had a new name: Tigerbeat. With a 4 song tape, recorded on a 4 track recorder Tigerbeat gave its first performance. They were quickly noticed and taken under the wing of the booking agency Proton. Soon they were doing nation-wide live shows and playing in support of bands like Royal Trux, Man or Astroman, and Girls Against Boys.

1999 found Tigerbeat on tour with the german blues noise-niks Mucus 2 and further work as a supporting act (the International Noise Conspiracy and Die Sterne). Aside from many live shows the band made their first 7 inch for Fanboy Records.

In 2000 Tigerbeat found themselves playing in the USA at the South-by-Southwest music fair. Their concert was considered to be the loudest of the fair. The same year Jutta Kolb joined Tigerbeat playing various keyboard instruments. The band had determined to go on as a foursome. During the year 2000 the band finally completed the recordings of their debut album "No. 1". Shortly after the record was ready for release Jutta got pregnant and quit the band. As a replacement came Stefan Nielsen into the play of things, doubling on piano and guitar - he could sing too! Finally Tigerbeat was perfected!

In February 2002 the album "No.1" was released on the label "Exile On Mainstream". Co-producer Ascii.disko knew how to allow the music to sound new: "...raw, slightly polished, and with a self-confidently sense of style." (Visions, 04/02) An extensive tour throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland followed.

In December 2002 the band missed the starting shot for their work on the 2nd album: "13 songs". Tigerbeat made a decision for a label change and moved to the distinguished Hamburg label Buback Records where "13 songs" has been released one year later in December 2003. An album which got everything, "...a great album must have: class and attitude, feeling and power, pathos and reduction, blues and soul" (Spex magazine, record of the month 12/03). The rest of the relevant German media was enthusiastic about the album, as well.

January and Februray 2004 saw 2 extensive tours through Germany and Switzerland with a show at the Eurosonic Festival in Holland. This summer
Tigerbeat will hit all the important german and austrian festivals: Rock am Ring, Rock in the Park, Hurricane, Immergut, Haldern, Taubertal and many more...
