Bio

"2 Arts" is the result of two artists from two disciplines who fell in love in 1980, separated for 29 years and picked up where they left off 4 years ago. Greg Speas is a trained musician and Lucretia is trained in visual arts. Greg understands music theory, and Lucretia does not (and does not wish to.) Her philosophy about music is that it is liquid sound and could not possibly have anything to do with math. His eclectic understanding of notes and rhythms combines with her intrinsic ability to harmonize, creating an unbridled sound with unpredictable, but consistently tight harmonies in atypical song structures. Greg and Lucretia Speas are based in Mars Hill, NC. This singer-songwriter duo performs original and traditional music, featuring both Greg and Lucretia on vocals with Greg on guitar, dobro and harmonica. Their repertoire includes folk and blues with an emphasis on vocal harmony and solid rhythms, along with their interpretations of traditional songs. Lucretia has a MFA in Painting and studied mosaic in Italy and has shown her work int international juried shows. She currently works at Riverside Studios, in Asheville's River Arts District. Greg has performed with various bands over the years as well as performing solo, and recently toured Europe with British rocker, Duncan Hendy. While in the Czech Republic, Greg and Lucretia were asked to record on a CD which accompanied a book of American traditional folk and country standards. Selections from the album, which also featured several prominent musicians from Czech, were aired on European radio. After returning to the US, Greg and Lucretia began performing in the Asheville area. In 2012, British artist Julyan Davis asked Lucretia and Greg to perform for his traveling exhibition, "Dark Corners; The Appalachian Murder Ballad", singing their arrangements of traditional mountain ballads.
