"Taxi Review"

Vondell & Mike J make a great duo. It's nice to see them do contemporary R&B and still include sax as a key part. It's nicely executed and sounds fresh. - Taxi

Bio

Imagine contemporary R&B with a Jazz spin sprinkled with a little Hip Hop featuring the sax as a key part, and then add vocals that flow easily with good lifts and resolution that communicate emotion to the listener... THAT’S the vibe of 2Deep. Comprised of sax player, Vondell Henderson and vocalist Mike J this duo delivers a memorable and uplifting performance.

Born in St. Louis, writer, producer, artist, public speaker, actor and model, Vondell Henderson has been playing the saxophone since childhood. At the young age of 9, with no prior professional lessons he began to cultivate, hone and eventually master his talent. Henderson’s smooth, jazzy style and uncompromised talent on the sax earned his right to be one of the featured saxophonists who performed at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration. Upon his return to St. Louis after the inauguration, he was greeted with offers to appear on many local television and radio shows. He co-starred in the gospel play, “Only the Strong”, and secured a role in the play “Four Guys Named Moe”. He also performed at the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY where he received a standing ovation. To add to his credits, he has appeared on stage with Bill Cosby, worked with multiple Capitol Record recording artists, mixed at Sony Pictures, acts and has appeared on network television.

Vondell is also a family man who champions and has performed for the NAACP, The Annie Malone Foundation and the Caring and Sharing Program for Children.

Whether he is playing R&B, contemporary or straight-ahead jazz, Henderson stands in a class all by himself. He is known for his stage presence, unique style and feel, not to mention his ability to surprise the audience with something out of the ordinary.

After relocating to Los Angeles, Henderson teamed up and collaborated with Mike J, also born in Missouri. As a small child, Mike J’s family relocated to Denver, Colorado where he tailored his musical abilities. Influenced directly by artists like Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire, who actually gave Mike J his first lesson in song structure.

As a teenager, R&B great, Barry White urged him to never give up on his talent, inspiring words that have led Mike J to travel around the globe as a lead singer for the famed Capitol Records recording group, Portrait. Other additions to Mike J’s accomplishments are a Grammy nomination for work with Quincy Jones on “Q’s Jook Joint” and numerous movie appearances and he has also written soundtracks for “Players Club”, “Grace of My Heart” and “Jiminy Glick’s La La Wood” just to name a few.

Influenced heavily by Prince, Michael Jackson, and Marvin Gaye, Mike J has shared the stage with industry heavyweights like Mary J Blige, Baby Face, Tony Toni Tone and the late Luther Vandross. His other credits include writing and producing songs for Public Announcement, Tamia and his talents took Paul Taylor to #3 on the Billboard charts with the song “Avenue”.

Mike J has also performed on Soul Train, numerous BET broadcasts and NBC. He has been featured in magazines such as “Billboard”, “BRE”, “Sista 2 Sista”, “People” and “Right On”. Audiences around the world bare testimony to his unique artistic talent, and would tell you that if you take the stage after Mike J, you’d better bring your “A” game!

To add to their experience, Vondell and Mike J also have extensive domestic and international touring to their credit and they have been groomed over the years by the industry’s finest.

The merging of the talents of Vondell Henderson and Mike J provide the audience with a memorable experience. The sound and feel is a unique pairing as the warmth of the sax compliments the tone of the vocals. Their music is cohesive and flows easily with good lifts and memorable hooks. Communicating to the listener a genuine expression of feelings with a sensual, sexy mood. One must take notice of this pair… it’s what you’ve been missing.
