"STRAINS OF CALYPSO AND OTHER CARIBBEAN RHYTHMS PLAY A ROLE. MOST OF THE MATERIAL COULD BE CONSIDERED AS POP-FOLK SONGS, BUT IT'S A SMOOTH SET OF TUNES. IF THERE IS A POINT TO OUR MUSIC, IT'S TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL HAPPY" ROGER LEVESQUE, THE EDMONTON JOURNAL

Biography

Welcome to the music of 2islandgirls, Kay and Kathy DaSilva, an eclectic mix of acoustic folk and Caribbean rhythms! Call it Caribbean, call it Folk, call it Island, or call it Trop Rock, 2islandgirls music is all about “Total Fun and Dancing”.
Kay and Kathy were born and grew up in the small and beautiful island of Barbados. They began singing at an early age with their Dad who was a local island musician with a recording studio. They went on to develop a unique style that blended vocal harmonies with acoustic guitar.
Performing a mixture of original and specially chosen cover favourites, they have performed all over the world from Barbados to England, and coast to coast in Canada over the past 25 years.
From intimate venues as a 2 pc, to full band performances at large venues and festivals, 2islandgirls bring fun, laughter, and dancing to create the ultimate crowd pleasing performance.
Their debut CD, released in April 2009 featured a selection of songs that mirror their versatility and creativity. With the addition of well respected musician Gord Matthews, our Sno-Cone man, the song writing trio is reaching new heights with a new Album scheduled to be released in early 2011!

Lyrics

Waterfall

Written By: Kay DaSilva

Here I go again lost in you
Taken to a place I’m born again
No way am I ever gonna lose again
I won’t be caught ever in a trap again
I am willing to fight for you
Show me signs I can win again
Falling, I’m falling in love with you again
Never to be so apart from you again

Take me away, sing me a love song, there in your arms
Free from all pain, I will remain there forever
I’ll give you reasons, you’re in my heart, I’ll find a way
Sing me a love song, sing me your love song
A love song to stay

Hang on, I am on my way to you
No one will tell me that I am wrong
Take me, I want you back in my life again
Run away, we’ll run away and be free again

Take me away, sing me a love song, there in your arms
Free from all pain, I will remain there forever
I’ll give you reasons, you’re in my heart, I’ll find a way
Sing me a love song, sing me your love song
A love song to stay

Stars shine, the moon gleams just like our love
Water falls, the angel glows down on our life
Heaven is near whenever I see you face
I will love you for all my days

Love is Weird

Love is Weird (2007- Kay DaSilva)

I stare in the mirror lost in my reflection
Aware of the contradictions in my mind and
in my actions
Far away there’s a life so different from my own
I’m a girl trapped inside all alone

Love is weird when dreams are sold
Can’t cross the line, my song won’t be heard
Too many pieces out there unknown
When we sell our dreams, love is weird

I move in the shadows tracing my own footsteps
Blind and lost from feeling
What my heart calls to this moment
Here today my life is stronger that I know
Can’t be that girl in the mirror all alone

Love is weird when dreams are sold
Can’t cross the line, my song won’t be heard
Too many pieces out there unknown
When we sell our dreams, love is weird

My life should be with you
I could be home to stay
It would make me believe
I’d be safe if I stayed
I will love you always
But my heart’s out there today

Where does my life go from here,
I don’t have the answers
Holding onto love that must hold true
to its intention
Can I stay or should I follow roads I do not know
Leave the girl in the mirror all alone

Written By: Kay and Kathy DaSilva

Sno-Cone Man March 2010 (Capo 5 C)

Sno-cone man w’happening, sno-cone man where yuh been

I’d lime at de Bridgetown Market, waiting for you in de heat

I’d see yuh in comfy short pants, wid flip-flops upon yuh feet
Selling cones with condensed milk, Lord to me dat was a treat

Is democracy not working, ice plant close mess you up
It is yuh Bajan heritage to mek a living wid dem little cups
Is it economics that gone wrong (modulate)
Ice cream machines dat win
They can’t tek yuh away from us (modulate again)
We want yuh back and thriving

Where yuh been, where yuh been my sno-cone man
I've been missing yuh, missing yuh my sno-cone man

Aye aye aye, dem cups of ice, man it feel nice
Aye aye aye orange or red
Yeah man brain freeze, it got me head.

I been here all de time wat u saying to me
Come on down bring ya money, my sno-cones not fuh free
Cause u know dat these sno-cones they don't grow pun de tree

Total Fun and Dancing

Total Fun and Dancing (Kathy DaSilva 2008 Capo 3 G)

It was hot, not a breeze, not a ripple on the water
It was still, not a word, not that it could ever matter
There you were, sexy gem, standing quietly by the counter
Took my breath away as I watched you
Followed you out under the moon

Want to be with you on those quiet special nights
When the only sounds that touch the ground
Are the ones of, total sweet surrender
I’d say it’s a special day when I hear you say
You will take my hand and walk my way
To a future, of total fun and dancing

I delight, in the thought, that you could not see this coming
Yet you flirt, in that way, when you think that I’m not looking
Seems to me, it’s become, something more than I can imagine
You can tantalize
I can fantasize
As we move under the moon

Solo

It’s not our role, to question fate
It cannot work, if, we procrastinate

Bajan Fruit

Written By: Kay and Kathy DaSilva

Bajan Fruit (Kay and Kathy DaSilva-Oct 09 7 D/E)

One hot and sticky morning on de island
Waking up, wid a pain in me belly
All I want to eat is round the corner
On de lady tray, down by the bus stand

Gonna pick up me head, crawl outta bed
Shake off the sand, head for the woman, fruit stand
She’s always dere, beads in her hair
I know what she’ll do, she gonna bag up me Bajan fruit

Still in bed, tinking bout what I should buy
Fresh guavas, dems three for a dollar
Ripe mangoes, Lord dere’s nutting sweeter
All on de lady tray, down by the bus stand

Gonna pick up me head, crawl outta bed
Shake off the sand, head for the woman, fruit stand
She’s always dere, beads in her hair
I know what she’ll do, she gonna bag up me Bajan fruit
Marry a mango, bag up me Bajan fruit
Go with a guava, bag up me Bajan fruit

Solo-modulate

Now I’m dressed, I’m ready to go dere
Ring Mabel, me best friend since de potty
She gon come round, coz she want some fruit too
We gon tek she car and head for Bridgetown

I don picked up me head, crawled outta bed
Shook off the sand, now on my way to de, fruit stand
Dat woman dere, wid beads in she hair
Look what she do, she done bag up me Bajan fruit
Look what she do, she done bag up me Bajan fruit
Party wid papaya, bag up me Bajan fruit
Cha cha wid cherries, bag up me Bajan fruit
