Thank you for sending your new CD, ?Straight @ You? to Eclectic 89.1 WBCX at Brenau University in Gainesville, GA!

We are adding Tracks # 4 (All I Need Is You) to our Melodic Monday & Soulful Saturday formats.

We are adding Tracks # 6 (M.V.P.) & # 8 (Just Add Water) to our Funky Friday format.

This is a great CD! It has a good groove throughout, blending jazz, funk, fusion, R & B, and soul in a way that is smooth ? yet without being too smooth, if you know what I mean. I always enjoy anything that Randy Hoexter works on as well!

Eclectic 89.1 WBCX is a non-commercial college station with various eclectic formats which specialize in presenting creative programming, quality-driven artists, and introducing our audiences to tracks that other stations typically overlook. We are pleased to have the opportunity to present your music to our audience throughout NE Atlanta and greater North Georgia.

If you are interested, we would like to do an on-air giveaway promotion. During such promotions, the DJs within the appropriate formats will play and promote your CD for at least three weeks prior to giving any copies away. This familiarizes the audience with the artist, as well as various tracks from their latest release that the audience will not necessarily have an opportunity to hear anywhere else. This is the best way I've found to rally my volunteer DJs around the promotion of a particular CD or artist. If you would like to do any promotional giveaways on our station -- anywhere from 2 to 8 extra CDs should do it -- we would be happy to participate!

Sincerely,

J. Scott Fugate

General Manager, Program & Music Director

Featured Artist: North Woodall

CD Title: 2unes Straight @ You

Year: 2007

Record Label: Independent

Style: Smooth Jazz

Musicians: North Woodall (guitars, vocals), Eugene Hunter (tenor sax), Lorenzo Whitehead (keyboards), Ryan Jackson (trumpet), Horns Unlimited (horns), Lance Wells (drums), Anna Sullivant (lead vocals), Marsha Dupree, Rachael Thomas, Karen Woodall(background vocals), Randy Hoexter (drums, bass, 2nd keys), Victor Choate (bass guitar)

Review:
So often in this genre, you run accross a musician who has been working all his life at his craft with a single intention, to share his gift with others. They woodshed for hours, they work the dives and often times work full-time jobs to make ends meet and still get out and play three or four times a week to spread their music. Sometimes they will take the initiative, more often today, to produce a recording of their work. They will spend the time, the money, the energy and the soul collateral to create a device to spread their music further.

North "2unes" Woodall is one of those artists and "Straight@You" is his second effort to spread his gift. North, who goes by "2unes" to his friends and fans, has been plying his trade for a long time. A fixture in the Atlanta blues, jazz, funk and R&B scenes, he has built a local reputation as being a solid guitarist who can represent the above genres with skill and enthusiasm. Where "2unes" shines is when he slips into the warm place where jazz meets funk and R&B and where you feel good when you hear it. Primarily an R&B and Funk artist, "2unes" has honed his craft and has been able to introduce the jazz element into these songs in such a way that you feel the original nature of his arrangements, even on old familiar songs like "Let's Groove," an Earth, Wind and Fire classic.

The CD features ten songs, four written by Woodall, one by his drummer/bass player Randy Hoexter. Other songs are covers of popular tunes from the R&B genre. Where tunes accels is in the jazz interpretations of these songs and his ability to turn them into feel good music. Because when you hear "2unes," whether on this CD or live, you just feel good. The cover cuts are passable. My favorite is "Rain Forest" as "2unes" takes this track and does something different. Synthing the vocal and driving the song with a good groove.

Where "2unes" shines is on his original compositions and that of Hoexter. They are well executed smooth jazz songs. The quality of which is in that they don't sound like all the other smooth jazz songs you hear on the radio. Woodall has taken the effort to infuse them with either underlying funk grooves or to mix it up a bit with the phrasing. Never belying the genre of smooth jazz, but taking it out to the edges with R&B and Funk elements. His guitar playing is the glue that holds these songs together. He also makes a good use of vocals as an instrument of the melody.

Overall, North "2unes" Woodall gets points for making this CD. It is a showcase of his unique talents and his ability to fuse the genres under the smooth jazz heading. Again I will reiterate, it is a feel good CD, you listen and you want to listen to more. The familiar songs are familiar and the originals feel like they should be. That being said, I would hope that Woodall's next effort feature more of his jazz playing. Whether on a Strat or a hollow-body, Woodall brings out the funk in the smooth jazz. That is what makes this CD fun. Check it out on www.2unes.net.

Tracks: Rock Steady(Whisper), Sweet Baby (Woodall), Going in Circles (Friends of Distinction), All I Need Is You (Woodall), Rain Forest(Paul Hardcastle), M.V.P.(Woodall), Find Your Way (Kem), Just Add Water (Randy Hoexter), Cafe 290 (Woodall), Let's Groove (Earth, Wind and Fire)

"2unes - Straight @ You"

2unes - Straight @ You

North "Tunes" Woodall, a name, a message, a promise. The Jackson, Mississippi born musician had his first contact with his guitar in the early age of 11. Leaded by heroes like Ernie Isley, Santana and Joe Walsh he quickly developed his own style of performance. His amazing repertory of songs coined his name Tunes.

He worked with greats such as the Ohio Players, Roger Troutman and Zapp, Roy Aires, Millie Jackson, Tom Browne, and Will Downe. Currently, Tunes is playing with the Uptown Entertainment Band that he co-founded and is working hard in his Home Studio on new projects. After his debut album Hot And Cool (2005) now follows his sophomore album Straight @ You (2007), which showcases besides some covers five original compositions.

North has a special feeling for grooving tunes. Everything what you like in the world of good old Funk and R&B, you re-found it on this album. The album starts with a cover version of Rock Steady. Composed by dream-team "Babyface" Edmonds, Reid and Watson the original was released by the Whispers in 1987, a huge hit. While Rachael Thomas lends his strong vocals and keeps the connection to the original, North adds his own flavor of funky guitar.

North shines on his own composition Sweet Baby. A infectious song with a high hooking factor. Featured musician on this tune is saxophonist Eugene Hunter. On the second half of the tune North adds a Wah-effect and give it some edges. Priceless!

Going In Circles is another gem of R&B history. Friends of Distinction had a chart-breaker with this ballade in 1969. A vibrant melody with a feeling of exhilaration.

All I Need Is You is featuring female singer Anna Sullivant, a talent with a great appeal. Her vocals and North's cool guitar loops level the tune to a really catchy record.

I have really heard the monster hit Rain Forest by Paul Hardcastle in many versions, I count even 19 (!) versions of Hardcastle himself. I never expected that another musician would cover this washed-out tune. Anyway the result is respectable.

When you listen to North's own composition like M.V.P., you will not find a difference in the quality to the covered songs, what speaks for North's compositional talent.

Kem is a new singer on the horizon of R&B. Although his first album Kemistry had a decent success of more than 10.000 sold copies, he didn't earned the great success which one can await after listening to his music. One of his greatest fans is certainly North who covered Kem's song Find Your Way which was published on Album II (2005). Good stuff!

Personally I prefer the up-tempo tunes like Just Add Water, which was composed by North's friend Randy Hoexter. Pianist and composer Randy Hoexter has been at the top of Atlanta's jazz scene for more than fifteen years and recently released his critically acclaimed debut album Radiant. Randy plays all instruments, while North performs his great Wah-guitar. Randy arranged together with North all songs on this album and was also executive producer.

Café 290 is featuring trumpet player Ryan Jackson who is a master of the muted trumpet. Randy Hoexter's keys perfectly fits into the atmosphere mostly playing in chords. While North performs the melody in single notes with great vivacity.

The last tune of North's album is a cover of Let's Groove Tonight. A song of Earth, Wind & Fire, one of the tightest Funk Band, the world has ever seen, released on their album Raise! (1982). A chart-topper newly polished by North with some vocoder effects.

Straight @ You is exactly what the title says. This album makes fun and cheers you up in the right way.

North "2unes" Woodall
Jazz Guitarist

North Woodall, hailing from Mississippi, began his illustrious musical career at the age of 11. The talent showcase show-stopper picked up the pace in his teen years and studied guitar greats such as Ernie Isley, Santana and Joe Walsh. His star-styled talent gave way to earn him spots with the Delvones and Round Trip Ticket.

Mesmerizing audiences with never-ending vibes, North Woodall was quickly penned the name 2unes by holding it down with too many tunes to name without repeating selections during his sets. 2unes answered the call of the New South Hollywood, Atlanta, when the opportunity to play with Lakeside at the Coca Cola Amphitheatre was presented to him. The Lakeside feature paved the way to 2unes being heard and "stringing it" with The Ohio Players, Roger Troutman and Zapp, Roy Aires, Millie Jackson, Tom Brown and Will Downey.

2unes' musical vibes can be heard on all the stages in Atlanta from the Ritz Carlton to Wind-Down Wednesdays at Centennial Park, a part of the delectable menu for jazz at the Grand Hyatt's Sunday brunch.

2unes shares his love of music and the guitar with the youth of today. Mentoring young guitar players from the church to the stage, North Woodall prepares the next generation for musical success. Guiding with a gentle hand, leading by example and true to revelations by Franklin Roosevelt, "we can't always build the future for our youth but we can build our youth for the future".
