The Players: Liz, vocals; Blair, guitar; Jesus, bass; Mackenzie, drums.

Material: 33DEGREE is a great-sounding, ultra-heavy, Tool-like band with an unexpectedly appealing female lead singer. Songs are lengthy, full of crashing cymbals, precisely timed pauses, countless tempo changes and big kahuna finishes. Liz wails her throaty, yet pretty, voice with an inflection full of angst as she painfully repeats "look what you've done" to the point of exhaustion. The odd combination of three angry men supporting a five-foot tortured female is appealing to both guys and girls and should engage more fans.

Musicianship: This band is well rehearsed and prepared to showcase for labels. Mackenzie is a monster on the kit, rigged with a double bass and rows of toms and cymbals. Blair's mysterious and spacey guitar solos create a climactic atmosphere worthy of the wild applause he generates. Jesus' presence is impossible to ignore, feeding off of Liz's tormented aggression. This band is into their music and their energy is contagious.

Performance: 33DEGREE performed full-throttle from beginning to end for a very enthusiastic crowd, whose cheers were a substantial part of the show. Most of the tunes were long, allowing the players to cause a very intense vibe inside the club. As the band's sound waxed and waned, Liz gripped the mic like it was the very thing that pissed her off. Pacing the stage, engaging the crowd, pounding the floor with her fists, she got her point across. This little lady is angry, but performs without going over the top.

Summary: Well rehearsed, professional onstage, and already with a sizable fan base, 33DEGREE is capable of standing out among the many mixed gender bands in this particular genre. They are currently working on a demo that should lead them in the right direction.

Bio

33DEGREE was birthed in early 2003 in Los Angeles and have kept L.A. as the home base. In a short period of time, they have been officially sponsored by Jägermeister, Coffin Case, Sam Ash Music, Evil Threads and Liquid Salvation, endorsed by Ernie Ball, Alchemy/Istanbul Cymbals and Basson Sound. They were nominated and voted as L.A.'s Best Female-Fronted Band 2004 by Rock City News, then were awarded as L.A.'s Best Hard Rock Group 2005 by All Access Magazine, became a song finalist for the 2005 Independent Music Awards, was voted into the TOP 15 of MTV2's Projekt Revolution L.A. Battle and was recently nominated for Best Hard Rock Female Vocalist, Best Hard Rock Drummer and Best Hard Rock Group for the 2007 All Access Magazine Music Awards.

33DEGREE is comprised of vital body functions. Liz extracts the mind and memories, grabs the throat. Blair seizes the nerve system, wrecks the upper body. Jesus attacks the gut, toys with the lower body. Mack pumps the heart, drives the pulse, keeps the spine straight...well, straight-ish.

As hard as it is to define and put a label on music and bands these days, 33DEGREE digs deep. The vocals and lyrics are personal, emotional, dark, moody, introspective and most importantly, melodic, on top of the mostly progressive, chaotic crunch, complimented by a deep-rooted rhythm, driven by an often odd-time signature-laden syncopated and tribal backbone, possessing the magnetic stage presence bursting with intensity, energy and pure emotion. But honestly, it's more than that. A live experience is where you might find the ability to put it into words yourself.

33DEGREE is possibly one of the hardest working independent unsigned bands in California (maybe even on Earth), recording and releasing albums, booking national tours and securing shows with bands like Static-X, Disturbed, In This Moment, Bloodsimple, Mushroomhead, Dope, Powerman 5000, Bullets and Octane, The Apex Theory, Metal Skool, Banyan...
