35TH AND TAYLOR
I KNOW YOU’RE TROUBLE
HOMESLICE ARTIST MANAGEMENT
HARD TIMES–NEW RELIGION–I KNOW YOU’RE TROUBLE–UNTIL THE END–NIGHT TERRORS–AIN’T COMING DOWN–RED LETTER–CUT YOU DOWN–FIGURE IT OUT–SOLDIERS
The talent pool of today’s youth is downright amazing. Recent releases from Nick Schnebelen, Samantha Fish, and JL Fulks, just to name a few, show that the young’uns sho’ nuff know what they’re doing. The four members who comprise Iowa’s 35TH And Taylor are ALL under twenty years old! Lead singer Anna Taylor, with one of those soulfully-powerful voices reminiscent of Grace Potter or Joss Stone, got her baptism of fire as a participant in Season Six of “The Voice,” at the ripe old age of fifteen! With that experience and exposure, the band has just completed their latest album, “I Know You’re Trouble,” with Anna on vocals and piano. Joining her on this fine collection is original band member Evan Kaler on guitar, and new members Max Miller on drums and Jack Osborn on the bass. The whole shootin’ match was recorded about 20 miles from us over in Franklin, with J. Hall at the helm. As such, these ten cuts have a predominantly blues-rock vibe with a bit of an alternative bite.
Leading off, Anna’s emotions are torn in the tale of “Hard Times,” as, every time she tries to leave a lover, “something forces me to stay!” At the other end of that spectrum is the title cut, as Anna realizes “I Know You’re Trouble, but I don’t care–it just feels right.” “Red Letter” is a song of empowerment and standing up strong, ’cause “mama didn’t raise no fool!” Evan’s guitar wails all over this tale of the “day of reckoning!”
We had two favorites, too. Perhaps the set’s most straight-blues-oriented track is the grungy take-down of a “thief and a black-hearted boy” who broke Anna’s heart, and now, “I’m gonna Cut You Down!” Evan’s guitar takes on a devil-at-the-Crossroads feel as Anna exacts her measure of revenge. The set’s most powerful piece features only Anna’s voice and her piano, as she is haunted by memories of a long-gone lover, leaving her to deal with her “Night Terrors.”
35Th And Taylor look to reach a much wider audience with the release of “I Know You’re Trouble.” They are passionate for their music, and love touring wherever and whenever they can. For these young folks, the sky’s the limit! Until next time…Sheryl and Don Crow, The Nashville Blues Society. - Don and Sheryl Crow

"The Unique Blues And Rock of 35 th And Taylor"

When you first hear this band, you'll think that they are seasoned veterans. But in fact, two of the band members are still in high school. On the other hand, their lead singer was featured on the sixth season of the NBC show, The Voice. The band is 35th and Taylor. That lead singer is Anna Taylor.

The band has had two albums out. But, according to a statement from Taylor, neither truly reflected the sound the band felt was theirs. So they traveled to Nashville to work with veteran producer J. Hall. After many hours in the studio, writing and rehearsing, the band came up with material that they felt was right for them. The result is their third album, which is titled I Know You're Trouble.

The band was previously known as November 35th . As such, the band was given the “Spirit Award” by the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Association for their contribution for the youth and future of rock and roll in Iowa. Quite an award for a band from the Sioux City area whose members are barely old enough to legally drive. As stated in their promo material, all the members of the band, including Anna, are under the age of twenty.

The members of the band are Anna Taylor, Evan Kaler, Jack Osborn and Max Miller. Evan plays lead guitar. Jack is on bass guitar. Max is the band's drummer. And, as I mentioned earlier, Anna is the vocalist for the band. Anna also plays piano on the album.

The style of music of the band is not quite what I expected. They have been characterized as an alt blues rock band. Learning this, I kind of expected a bit of blues mixed with mild rock or something like that. What I found was music with a solid rock base fused with an intense blues texture. Listening to Anna's vocals, I tried to find a comparison to other blues or rock vocalists. To compare Anna to Bonnie Raitt or Joss Stone might be stretching it a bit, but the band does list Joss Stone as one of their many influences. The promo material for the album calls the band sound “unique alternative blues / rock.” I really think that says it all for the styling of the band's music. That is, unique.

You get a sense of that unique rock and blues with the album's first song, Hard Times. It has a toe-tapping rock blues base. Then the chorus moves into a faster paced rock mode. Anna's vocals are kind of hard to describe. They are fluid, and yet are burning with an intensity that proves out the blues influence. The song is about a guy that is totally bad for her, but yet she can't stay away.

That theme about a guy follows with the next song, New Religion. This one is definitely done is a rock blues style. Subtle rock blues music backs slick, slightly achy vocals by Anna.

In third position on the album is the title track, I Know You're Trouble. It is a really cool rock / blues piece infused with tough guitar riffs and great vocals

Until The End has more of a light, lyrical blues tone to it.

There is a beautiful song on the album that in itself is kind of sad. The song is Night Terrors. Piano plays in the background as Anna sings about being afraid when he is not there with her. The vocals are poignant.

Ain't Coming Down has an almost alt folk sound. It has a light guitar sound, with thunder in the background.

Bringing things back into rock mode is Red Letter. It has a cool rock guitar sound, with tough blues infused vocals.

Solid rock guitar backs Anna in the song Cut You Down. You will definitely be tapping your feet to the music in this one.

Then it's on to my favorite song on the album, Figure It Out. It starts out slow and bluesy. Then it kicks up with some too tough rock guitar backing Anna on the chorus.

The final song on the album is Soldiers. It too show the blues influence that infuses itself in the rock styling of the band. It has some killer guitar riffs and solid rock/ blues music.

Occasionally, I will write that an artist or band should soon be a household name. That might seem a bit lame, but I sincerely mean it when I write that. And I have to say, that with the right exposure, 35 th and Taylor, will be one of those bands whose name everybody knows. The music of the band is unique enough to stand out. The quality of Anna's vocals, combined with great backing music from her fellow band members, make this band well worth listening to.

I Know You're Trouble is available digitally on iTunes and Google Play.

"35th and Taylor Releases New Album I Know You’re Trouble"

Upon first hearing the music of 35th and Taylor, it’s hard to imagine that two of the members are still in high school. But to write this bold group off simply because of age would be a mistake. Their achievements surpass countless bands ten and even twenty years their seniors, and with the debut of their new album, I Know You’re Trouble, they show no signs of stopping.
“This is what we want to do with our lives” says lead singer Anna Taylor, who appeared on the sixth season of NBC’s The Voice three years ago at the age of 15- showcasing her incredible talent before some of the biggest names in music including Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher, and Shakira. Anna found her way on to the show after being selected during an open call in New York City, beating out thousands of other performers. She had previously won multiple talent competitions near her hometown, including the Rockestra “American Idol” in Sioux City, Iowa- making her a battle tested competitor before she was old enough to drive a car.

The other three members of the band are multi-faceted talents as well. Original member Evan Kaler is a gifted multi-instrumentalist who has found his place shredding on lead guitar and handling vocal duties. Members Jack Osborn (bass) and Max Miller (drums) were hand selected for their energy, sound, and musical flexibility. Jack is also versed in guitar, drums, trumpet, mandolin and cello- making the quartet as versatile musically as any out there.

I Know You’re Trouble is the band’s third album, but according to Taylor it’s the first release that truly feels like their own sound. “We have recorded previously and have a couple of really good songs from the process, but this is the first time we were able to spend the hours needed to make a cohesive sounding 10 track album that we will be proud of forever, and that’s ultimately been the goal.” Evan adds “The biggest difference in the recording process this time around was working with producer J. Hall. His experience and knowledge helped us draw out and actualize a sound that we had been searching for on previous albums. Having a producer involved definitely helped us turn this album into a complete thought.”

All under the age of twenty, the four members of 35th and Taylor left their parents’ homes in late 2015 to record the album in Nashville with alternative rock producer J. Hall. It consists of ten tracks and is now available on iTunes, Google Play and CD Baby. “The album has a no frills blues/rock feel to it, and it leans a little alternative,” says Anna. “The whole recording process was a grueling, but rewarding, experience. We lived down in Tennessee for a month without our parents, and it was definitely educational. We were up at 9am and logging 12 hour days in the studio, just grinding it out. They were long hauls, but it was incredible going into the studio with a song idea one day and then watch it change and go a new direction as everyone added their touch. We ended up loving the creative process behind it all, and I think the album really speaks for itself.”
35th and Taylor takes influence from contemporary rockers like the Black Keys, White Stripes, Grace Potter and Joss Stone. For their contribution to the future of music in Iowa the band received the “Spirit Award” from the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Fame in 2015, and they have also been spun on the FM dial via Clear Channel and Powell Broadcasting stations in Iowa. With I Know You’re Trouble the band continues their musical journey, and they are ready to bring their own sound and voices to the world.

“I want tons of people to hear it and love it,” Taylor states of the album. “I want to continue playing and make a living doing what I love. Continuing to play festivals and new venues is the goal. We tour extensively throughout 6-7 states in the Midwest and want to keep branching out. We’ve opened for multiple national acts as well as headlined large stages- from Hard Rock Casinos to the Rally Point Stage at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We will continue to grow as artists and performers, and we can’t wait for what lies ahead!” - Just Jay

Bio

Anna Taylor, lead singer, 18, has no fear of the stage and spotlight. She was the Rockestra “American Idol” winner in Sioux City, Iowa, and went on to become a contestant on NBC’S sixth season of “The Voice” where she sang before esteemed singers and songwriters Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher and Shakira. Evan Kaler, lead guitarist/vocals, 18, is an original member.  He is a multi-talented musician who is gifted with a number of instruments, but has found his calling as the lead shredder on the six strings in 35th and Taylor.

Other members Jack Osborn, bass, 16, and Max Miller, drums, 17, are the newest members of 35th and Taylor and were both welcomed into the group for their contribution of energy, sound, and musical flexibility.

This up and coming group has been sharing the stage with experienced bands since 2012, playing in markets in and around the Midwest. The band originated out the Sioux City metro, are the hottest thing in the Iowa area, and are quickly growing recognition. Opening and sharing the stage with bands such as Judd Hoos, Kat Perkins,  Melissa Etheridge and soon, Andy Grammer and Echosmith they are well on their way toward bigger crowds, venues, and stages. In the process of writing a new album, the band is showcasing all of their original songs on their iTunes, YouTube, and Facebook platforms. To demonstrate their wide range of musical ability the band covers material from Elvis, Green Day, The Beatles, The Animals, and Lorde. Although it’s a pleasure to hear their versions of other’s work, nothing can quite match their own sound. “All American Nomads” and “Voices” are two single releases that are a great depiction of these young artists’ signature brand and style. Don’t miss your chance to witness this untarnished, electrifying group in person, in South Dakota, Minnesota, and of course Iowa. Of those who have seen the band live, John Luebke (Sioux City Rockestra Founder/Director) may be the most excited to see them get credible recognition. He said he has “inner peace that other people will feel the same way I do” about 35th & Taylor and their talent.

Their original music has been aired on Clear Channel as well as Powell Broadcasting stations.

In 2015, the band, originally named “November 35th”, was awarded the “Spirit Award” by the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Fame by unanimous vote for their contribution of the youth and future of rock and roll in Iowa.
