"Video Blanket and 38th Parallel"

The band members of 38th Parallel were a little older, ninth graders, at least. Their song to cover was Touch Me by the Doors from the album Soft Parade. One of the most popular tunes by the legendary 1960s band, 38th Parallel (not to be confused with the Christian rock band of the same name) played it well, really, really well. The keyboard player sang the song while playing the organ like Ray Manzarek and had a wonderful voice, at times deep and full and, when appropriate, he hit the high notes with a growl. The bass player was fluid and played well within the drummer's solid beat. The guitarist, however, was incredible, a true burner, and on the lead break, he, momentarily, put the Les Paul he was playing behind his head and didn't miss a note. This band is so far ahead of their years it made older musicians in the crowd voice the thought that, maybe, it is time to hang it up and let the youngsters play. What a treat they were. Of course, the place erupted in sustained applause, hoots and whistles when they finished. - Examiner
