"39 Reasons @ Universal Bar & Grill"

39 Reasons
Universal Bar & Grill
By Jeff Raymond

I've heard many good things about the band, and I've heard their music, but I hadn't had an opportunity to see them play live, until now, and like always, I was skeptical, but they didn't disappoint.

39 Reasons is a Modern Rock band with good energy and singable lyrics. Case in point, 'Lost Angeles'. It sounds like something you'd regularly hear on your local radio station. The music is tight and lyrics go seamlessly with the music. With as long as the same song seems to last on the radio lately, I'd say songs like 'Garden' and 'One More Chance' are just "airplay-in-waiting".

It is apparent that this 4 piece band, fronted by singer Nate Stauffer, and well supported by Brian Angely on guitar, Joe McLaughlin on Bass, and Scott Speer on the skins has alot of experience. They are all talented musicians and they play really well together and put on a very good show, and people seem to notice.

With the quality of their show, coupled with the fact that they really seem to know how to promote themselves well, its just a matter of time before they find themselves out in the mainstream...and I'm looking forward to seeing them again and hearing their next new song.

Bio

“Going to Los Angeles / Wants to be famous / It’ll be fabulous”. While these lyrics from “Lost Angeles” epitomize the thoughts of many artists who move to L.A., the four members of the alternative rock band 39 Reasons are determined to not live out the cliché described in their own song. With influences ranging from U2 to Weezer to Aerosmith to Pearl Jam, 39 Reasons creates original, modern songs that are commercial while still maintaining an edge. Fans of bands such as Incubus, Foo Fighters and U2 will find a familiar, yet fresh sound with this band. Vocals hint at Brandon Boyd with an Eddie Vedder growl thrown in.

Created in December 2003, 39 Reasons played its first show two months later to a sold out crowd at 14 Below in Santa Monica. Since then, they have performed at many Los Angeles venues, and high profile events including Sports Illustrated’s 50th Anniversary Tour at its stop at the Santa Monica Pier, and the National Professional Paintball League World Series in San Diego. In August 2005, they successfully completed their first cross country tour, hitting St. Louis, Lancaster (PA), Philadelphia, Springfield (MA), Nashville, El Paso and Phoenix. This tour gave them their first opportunity to meet many of their fans face to face for the first time.

Songs from their cd can be heard on internet, college and indie radio stations worldwide. Garden rates among the top rated downloads, and most played songs on Radio Wazee. Photograph received high praise and an honorable mention in the alternative rock category of the 2004 Billboard World Song Contest. All Access Magazine calls them “a Modern Rock band with good energy and singable lyrics”, and says that Lost Angeles “sounds like something you’d regularly hear on your local radio station”.

Nate Stauffer pairs his passionate vocals with an in your face attitude that can instantly take control of an audience. Brian Angely’s guitar riffs and infectious hooks partner effortlessly with a rock solid rhythm section. Bassist, Joe McLaughlin, and drummer, Scott Speer feed off of each other so well, they act as a single unit. Live shows are energetic and entertaining and leave fans wanting more. Music Connection Magazine says “39 Reasons plays an earnest and musically tight set …they have all the right moves.”

Music Vault calls them creative, original, genuine and honest and says “I could easily name 39 Reasons to love this band, but I won’t because you’ll find out for yourself.”

No excuses… 39 Reasons
