3hour week Rock Cancer and opens ex-Oasis manager’s gig, all in one night!
Scunthorpe band, 3hour week certainly weren’t work shy on Saturday with two gigs in one night!
The four piece original indie rock band opened Alan McGee’s Greasy Lips night at The Brumby, which also had Paul Gallagher, brother of the infamous Oasis Gallagher brothers, play a DJ set throughout the evening, as well as other industry professional such as Alan Raw of BBC RAW Talent, and Circuit Records. The band then shot over to the Lincoln Imp to take part in the Let’s Rock Cancer battle of the bands, and have successfully reached the final which is to be held on Saturday, 30th October at the Lincoln Imp.
3hour week consists of Dave Gough on lead vocals and guitar, Danny Richardson on guitar, Ross Simpson on bass, synth and vocals, and Jack Simpson on drums.
“It was a manic night for us,” explains Danny. “We only had a few hours notice about the Greasy Lips gig at The Brumby, as another local band, Skarlett Riot, unfortunately had to pull out. Thankfully we were on first at The Brumby, so we had time to get to the Lincoln Imp, and we’re really excited to be through to the finals of Let’s Rock Cancer.”
Other bands that performed at Alan McGee’s Greasy Lips night was 4Kicks, Trip Down Project, Fallen Zero and The Dropdeads.
“It was a really good night, and it was great meeting Alan Raw and listening to what advice he had to give us, as we’re a pretty new band,” continues Danny. “It was also good to meet other people from the industry such as Circuit Records and Higher Rhythm Studios, and chatting to them about upcoming bands that are around and what’s happening in the music industry in general.”
The other bands that made it through to the Let’s Rock Cancer Battle of the Bands final are Missed You At The Show and Open Endings Progressed.

Biography:
3hour week are an up and coming electro/indie-pop band whose colourful, energetic, upbeat music offers a stark contrast to the sleepy industrial town in which the four members were raised.
Formed in 2010 through a mutual love of danceable guitar-based music, 3hour week took to the stage for the first time in the summer and have since dominated their local music scene. They soon began drawing comparisons to bands such as Foals, Bloc Party and Two Door Cinema Club, which helped them compile an extensive gig list across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
The band’s determination and ambition soon became evident when they were crowned runners up in the 2010 Scunthorpe Rock Open in January. This inspired the band to take their sound further afield, and in February the boys fulfilled a dream by playing to their first London audiences at venues including The Dublin Castle and The Fiddler’s Elbow in Camden. This mini-tour of London proved to be a huge success as the band were invited back to the Fiddler’s Elbow to play during the 2011 Camden Crawl Festival.
In order to build on this momentum the band visited 2fly Studios in March 2011 where they worked with platinum selling producer Alan Smyth, to record a three track demo CD. The three featured songs were met with critical acclaim from several radio stations leading to all three being featured on stations including BBC Radio Lincolnshire, BBC Radio Humberside and Absolute Radio, as well as a number of University and Community radio stations. After playing in Lincoln the band were invited as guests onto Siren FM’s Groundworx Session, where their demo was played and the band interviewed, expressing their character and humour in a professional and informal manner.
September 2011 has seen the release of the band’s first single, ‘End Scene’, which is on digital release. Two more singles, ‘Adventure Potential’ and ‘The Breakdown’ were released at the end of 2011.
The band is back in the studio with Alan Smyth in January and February 2012 to complete their first EP.
3hour week have created a whirlwind of attention within their first year of performing and have fast established themselves as one of the country’s most exciting undiscovered bands. Their eccentric blend of disco beats, driving bass-lines, relentless riffage and catchy vocal hooks, combined with a high energy, attention demanding performance have helped the band develop a loyal fan-base. The next 12 months will no doubt be extremely interesting for such a professional and capable band, given their refreshing and uplifting song writing capabilities.
