49 Goodbyes are harmonies and heartache, melancholy and minor chords, sad songs and slow dancing. 49 Goodbyes are Emma Swift and Courtney Botfield. 49 Goodbyes are breaking your heart… but in the nicest way possible.
A folk/ Americana duo that started as a collaborative covers project between two shy but eager lovers of old school country sounds and AM radio, 49 Goodbyes now perform original songs as well as loving reinterpretations of some favourites from yesteryear.
Featuring close-vocal harmonies, intricate guitar picking and crying pedal-steel, their debut EP couples original tunes penned by vocalist Emma Swift with covers from Gram Parsons & Alex Chilton. All four songs are sweet and bittersweet, tender as the night and longing to be listened to.
The EP was home recorded late last year, just in time for the band's first national tour supporting American duo Folk Uke, comprising of Cathy Guthrie and Amy Nelson; the talented, free-spirited and potty-mouthed daughters of two music legends Willie Nelson and Arlo (son of Woody) Guthrie.
