"National Anti-Bullying Week"

The Bullybusters project took part in a number of events during national anti-bullying week – 21st to 25th November 2005. During the week a whole range of activities took place to raise awareness of bullying and of the services and support that is available to people who are experiencing some form of bullying.

These included, an Anti Bullying Court hearing in Wirral and Peer mentor training and awareness presentations in Sefton. 365 blue balloons were set off in Knowsley all carrying anti bullying messages.

To mark the end of the week, a grand finale took place on Friday 25th November at the Liverpool Lighthouse in Oakfield Road, Liverpool. It was a magnificent event, with hundreds of children attending from a number of schools throughout Merseyside.

From the Lighthouse auditorium the audience listened to Lauren J who performed a song that she herself had written about her friend, who had been through traumatic experience at the hands of bullies at her school.

There was a tremendous a round of applause from the crowd as rap band ‘4Saken and Combat Solja'z’ joined the stage to perform their anti bullying rap song which they had written and recorded with mentors ‘Souls Rest’ especially for national anti bullying week. Crowds of children joined in and gave a standing ovation, many of them rapping from the aisles. Band member, Kane Awork, is no stranger to bullying; he was constantly taunted from the beginning of his senior school, he finally had to leave. As a result of his experience, Kane and the rest of ‘Max Pain Crew’ was able to write lyrics that describe what it is like to be bullied and hopefully get the message across to bullies of the pain that they can cause to their victims.
