NEW BOSTON BASED GROUP, 4U, RELEASES THEIR FIRST SINGLE “DON’T’ LIKE”

Boston, MA - Newly signed to NappyRoots Records, 4U is ready to drop their first single for the label, “Don’t Like” on Sept 23, 2004. Acclaimed as one of the “Groups on the Brink’ in March 2004 during the Budweiser True Music Showcase, and hailed as “the best-kept secret on Boston’s indie hip-hop scene”, 4U is arguably the most gifted and critically well-received male group in years. Gritty and raw yet intelligently artistic, 4U’s debut LP For You includes realism and real commitment towards women.

It is a rare thing when a group takes on life and the true voice for R&B. The debut single “Don’t Like” deals with a real life situation lived with the blinders off, all its consequences, conundrums, and moments of exhilaration and misery. The talented trio will grip you with this hip-hop, R&B track that “you will like”. The high powered lyrics give you an introduction to the skills of the trio. On the music side “Don’t Like” was produced by one of Boston’s best kept secrets, NappyRoots Chief Engineer/Producer, Tracey Clarke. The addition of this track to the list of his accomplishments places this as the next Hip-Hop street anthem.

NAPPYROOTS RECORDS is a Boston based record label and Production Company gearing up to release the forthcoming album "For You" April, 2005. The debut LP release is sure to set the industry abuzz and take the groove back to the streets.

Bio

Ask 4U what they want to hear people say when they listen to For You, their debut album, and the multi-talented recording artists’ answers, “Our passion.” We want them to make a connection with the music and all that it represents: emotionally, socially, and mentally. We want them to really hear talent.
That they will. Musically stimulating and lyrically honest, For You is more than just a debut album from the young men. It is everything you’d expect, and more than you could have hoped for. For You is equally divided between seductive mid-tempos, lush ballads and fiery club bangers, providing a sharp focus on whom 4U is right now: as performers, as men, and as a creative force to be reckoned with. The vibe is mature, playful, deeply passionate and sexually aggressive. For You is the sound of young men clearly staking their claim in the world and, in the process, communicating expectations.

4U consisting of Montez Kirkland, Elijah Muhammad, and Thomas Cannon, burst on the scene in 1999. Ever since they were a fledgling group in the environs of Boston, 4U has flaunted a passionate, energetic hip-hop spirit that people have always been drawn to. They’ve earned fans consistently with their inventive approach to R&B music, inspiring people with real situations, and a positive spirit towards women.

The album boasts a mix of live instruments and traditional hip-hop samples and beats. It also mixes the group’s breathless verbal acrobatics with a very conscious view of the world. For You was recorded in three different spurts over the last two years, beginning in 2002. “We’d record about six songs each time,” remembers Montez. “Then each time we went back, we felt we’d changed and grown as a group. So we’d do six more songs, and those six would be better than the previous six. It kept going until we were done.”

Overall 4U couldn’t be happier with the way the album’s turned out, and they feel people will be open to the direction chosen. It’s a rare thing when a group takes on life and the true voice of R&B, with songs like “Don’t Like” expressing the frustrations of young men dealing with ongoing drama; “All Up in my Face” speaking on the unfounded distrust relationship issues and “Doesn’t Mean a Thing” the anthem that advocates against domestic violence and verbal abuse, to name a few. 4U is definitely amongst the up & coming talented artist.
