This is the first release from the latest hiphop crew to come out of Notts. Streetbeats is a collaboration between legendary Notts scratch DJ and producer DJ Fever, Nicky Dimples and Jay. For this debut they also bring in the vocal talents of local emcees 45 and Honey along for the ride. 45 (formerly known as Mr 45) is heavy on both It’s On and I Am, but for different reasons. It’s On features Spanish guitars and a flow of vocals that seems to creep up on you. I Am is straight up political. With references to a host of influential black people, “I am Malcolm X, I am Marcus Garvey, I am Rodney King”.
I’m Over U is a beautiful track sung solo by the aptly named Honey. Her voice is a combination of silk and sugar and make it the kind of track you might find on a Morcheeba album, but with a bit more Notts about it.
All in all there are five tracks on here to get excited about and as a selection they’re pretty good. There are also a few bonus remixes and mixtapes included that are certainly listenable, but bring little new to the game. All in all tho, this promo is a pleasant surprise from some consumate Notts hiphop heads. Viva la Streetbeats!

More so than any other music since the blues, hip-hop is all about stories. And its stories are both criminal minded and grand, making them enthralling and unbelievable, but also making them only as interesting and convincing as the teller. That's why, despite being blackballed by the industry, without a major-label recording contract, heads still gravitated to Nottingham, UK realest son, 45, like the planets to the sun. 45, born 28 years ago, is the real deal, the genuine article. He's a man of the streets, intimately familiar with its codes and its violence, but still, 45, an incredibly intelligent and deliberate man, holds himself with a regal air as if above the pettiness which surrounds him. Couple his true-life hardship with his knack for addictive, crystal clear, storytelling flow, it's clear that 45 has exactly what it takes to ride down the road to riches and diamond rings. 45 is real, so he does real things
