Bio

Stef Grundy grew up in a small culturally diverse coal mining community in Utah. At the age of 13, after watching Melissa Etheridge perform on television she decided she wanted to be a musician. Stef had taken piano lessons from the age of 5 to the age of 12, and decided that she wanted to learn how to play guitar. "After watching Melissa Etheridge perform on TV I marched down the stairs in my parents house, rummaged through the storage room and found my Dad's old guitar. I remember him and I sitting around the camp fire singing "You Are My Sunshine" at family camp outs in the summer time. I think I spent the next month in my room looking at guitar books, playing along with CD's and teaching myself how to read tabs. At one point my mom took my guitar away for a week because I was missing dinner to practice. I knew that changing the world with my music is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I started listening to Patty Griffin, K's Choice, Indigo Girls, all have been so influential in my music. All of those artists saved my life." Stef Grundy
At the age of 14, Stef began playing music for her friends at school. Soon enough she had landed herself a gig at the Switchyard restaurant on Friday nights playing in front of the salad bar while people ate dinner. Soon enough, she was playing at the Helper City Arts Festival, and had an ongoing gig at the Balance Rock Pub in Helper Utah. She began to play with other musicians, and started to record her first album, Perfect Corruption, at the age of 16. During her Junior year of high school, her first album was completed. At that time, she was approached by her high school class and asked to write the senior song for the class of 2001. Stef was able to write and perform a song at her own graduation. "I was so honored that they would ask me to write the song for our class. That will be one of the most memorable moments I've ever had with music. There is nothing like looking out into a crowd of people you've known since you're a baby and seeing them sing along to your lyrics! It was amazing."
After high school Stef attended college in Amherst MA where she studied music and psychology. While living in MA Stef played various shows around the Pioneer Valley. She played at the Lord Jeffery Inn in Amherst MA, various events at Hampshire College, and benefit shows for different organizations in Vermont and MA. After college she moved back to Salt Lake City Utah where she currently resides. She has had the opportunity to open for various local bands in Salt Lake City. Organized an Open Mic Night for a local Bar, Mo Diggity's, and was also able to open for Sarah Bettens. She is currently recording her second album and collaborating with other musicians in the Salt Lake City area.
