"Music Review"

While not a local band, 534, from Brooklyn, NY will be on our local green turf her this coming weekend, both at Friday Night Live, and Saturday at the Grist Mill.

While I don't generally gravitate to R&B/Pop music, I gave a listen to the material on their MySpace Page.

I also clicked on their video for the song, "The Same." Both the songs and the video are clearly well produced, with solid hooks, both lyrically and musically, and the video does a nice job sliding back and forth from "the story" to the band playing.

Quoting the site: "Helming from Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, founding members Adam Root and Paul Orne upon meeting in early 2004, realized they had quite a similar vision for the band that would be known as a few other names before the two finally settling on 534."

Why 534? i guess you'll have to ask them yourself. Whatever reason they have for the name, I could easily imagine this band's material being on mainstream pop radio in the near future and will be looking forward to seeing their reception in Rutland.

If you want to be 534's friend, you can find them at www.myspace.com/534music . - Greg Nostrand - Rutland Herald

Bio

"Great original stuff. They will definitely go far." Grammy award winning music legend Jose Feliciano expressed these words after hearing the band 534 warm up a sold out New England crowd before he took the stage in late 2005. Since then the band has seen nothing but a positive response to their infectious blend of Pop-Rock/R&B and Soul music. Helming from Boston’s prestigous Berklee College of Music, founding members Adam Root and Paul Orne upon meeting in early 2004 realized that they had quite a similar vision for the band that would be known as a few other names before the two finally settling on 534. Both were very much into the urban music scene but understood that they wanted to include influences from many other genres of music. It’s quite easy to hear both jazz and gospel rhythms and progressions combined with contemporary rock and r&b grooves upon listening to the band’s 2005 EP, simply titled 534. The band played their first gig in the summer of 2004 and have not stopped since. They continued to perform all around the greater New England area while attending their last two years of school. In June of 2005, Adam and Paul decided to move to New York City to reach an even broader audience. Since arriving in New York, the band has garnered much attention on both college and internet radio. They have played at many prestigious New York City venues including CBGB’s, The Bitter End, and The Knitting Factory among others. Most recently the bands song "Leaving You," was named a finalist in the esteemed worldwide "John Lennon Songwriting Contest." The band has just released their first full length album independently. They just filmed their first music video for the albums lead single, "The Same (Battlezone)." It can be viewed on this page. The album is available through all major digital retailers, as well as their official site, www.534music.com, and their myspace, www.myspace.com/534music.
