"Five Forty 2 Live in Columbus!!!"

Five Forty 2 LIVE! Modern grunge/alternative/ Just Plain Kick-ass, from Huntington, W.V.

"…5:42 fits the scene, like rivets to sheet metal!

Eric and I arrived a bit early and found ourselves a seat with the guys from In the Company of Wolves and the place was getting packed already. "So this is where all you, Ohio party animals hang out?!?!"

First up was Five Forty 2, kicking off with one of their popular radio songs "Shame" (the song that drew my attention to them months earlier on X106.3/107.1)

Lead vocalist/guitarist Stephen Sanders, is very accomplished and proved he can dish out the same caliber of performance live, as on their CD. Wow! This band really understands pleasing the crowd!

Bang Bang, was most likely the crowd favorite song from them. This song speaks volumes about their humorous side and speaks more about the musical abilities of this West Virginia 3 piece band!

Stephen Sanders is vicarious and nimble on lead axe and drummer Ryan Canterbury is a magnum force, sweat and guts drummer with a style similar to Taylor Hawkins(Foo Fighters!) When it comes to the bass guitar, Zach Sanders is the epitome of Slap Bass, obviously taking influence from Primus and Flea. For a band that sort of fell together, while performing in other projects, this threesome is a match made in heaven!

The crowd was still getting larger, as more patrons arrived and found themselves a place to stand. All seats were taken by this time and it was still early in the evening.

Five Forty 2 kept the music coming for their set and gave the crowd one hell of great show! 5:42

Overall, 5:42 are a force to be reckoned with. A 5 star act with a promising future ahead of them....."

Bio

Five Forty 2 is a 3-piece touring rock band from Southside, WV. The trio is seasoned but not weathered in the music field; as they have played many shows on the East coast, yet are young in age. Their original music can be described as post-grunge/ progressive-alternative rock with a focus on guitar and bass lead rhythms. In addition to their original music, they cover over 40 songs from the 60’s to the present day, and appeal to all age groups. 5:42 has a self-produced/engineered 6-song EP and 2 music videos, and are currently working on recording a full length album of new material!
Stephen Sanders writes, sings, and plays lead guitar. He is self-taught and heavily influenced by Soundgarden, Tool, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Primus. Stephen never shies away from a chance to play a guitar solo. He writes what he feels - from the hard-rocking “Leo” about the silver bridge disaster in 1967, to the ballad “Smokin Joe” about the local bum, to the funky “Big Fat Pussy Cat” about a dead cat.
Stephen’s younger brother Zach Sanders plays lead bass, and is self-taught. Zach has his own unique sense of rhythm and style and is rumored to be the love child of Flea and Les Claypool. He has ambidextrous abilities, and can slap, tap, slide, and pick the bass with either hand, and often does. Zach is known as the quiet one - “They call me RIngo.”
The youngest, non-genetic member of the band is Ryan Canterbury - “The Drummer.” Not to be outdone, Ryan is also self-taught. He is inspired by David Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, and John Bonham. Ryan has a distinctive energetic finesse on the drums and is a master of the cymbals (more cow bell please). Ryans first experience with music was a country/folk band with the Jesse Crawford band, but Stephen and Zach quickly turned him to the dark side.
5:42 is serious about their music, but they don’t take themselves too seriously. They play an energetic show, and have up to 4 hours of music. They have shared the stage with various national acts including Bobaflex, Quiet Riot, Hyrdovibe, Joan Red, Frequency 54, Echovalve, and Midnight Mob. They placed 2nd in the 2010 Battle of Bands for X-Fest in Huntington, WV. They are ready and willing to play at any venue!
