5 Flat and Brown

5 Flat and Brown are two Mc's with very contrasting styles but when combined create a unique sound of their own. Their approach to music is a combination of real life experiences along with their own perspectives of the world around them. Some of their influences in R&B/ Hip hop include The Roots, Black Star, Gang Starr, Nas, Music Soul Child, Sade, and George Clinton. It is apparent that each song they write is literally a small chapter in their story that is being revealed with each passing day. Every triumph and tragedy both in their personal lives and their surrounding environment are a direct reflection of there inspiration to write lyrics. The concept of naming their first project "Tuition" is referring their goal of trying to use their music as a platform to help them pay off their student loans that they have acquired from pursuing a higher education. Having grown up the the Northwest they are looking to become part of the growing music scene in Seattle and are looking to work with other artists/producers who share the same passion for creating great music. Their first project has a compilation of songs that have an appeal for various audiences ranging from the more radio friendly tracks such as "Here For You" that encompasses relationships and the drama that comes with it, to the more socially conscience track "Eye Of The Storm" which speaks about the recent tragedies such as the earthquake in Haiti and the nations economic turmoil. "Tuition" is just a sample being put out while they work on a full length album that is already in the works. These two upcoming artist are evolving with every verse that is laid to paper and they are a making progress not only as musicians but as students to this game of life.
