Bio

fluid (floo'id) n. 1. a liquid or gas: adj. 1. to flow as a liquid or gas 2. the ability to change rapidly or easily 3. a shamelessly self-indulgent experimental pop-rock trio from the Toronto, Canada neighborhood 4. all of the above. 5. none of the above.

From the opening guitar loop of "What Planet Are We On?" to the trippy Melotron vibe of "Between Two Floors", it's clear that Fluid doesn't do anything the obvious way. Not in this lifetime anyway. If it can be manipulated or played with, these restless Canadian lads are eager to get down to it. Never content as your average rock trio, they layer and lather up their sound with everything from retro analog effects pedals and Kraftwerk-era drum machines to self-sampling and the most current software. But enough with the boring technical stuff. These guys seriously rock...just not in your average way. As Harry Houdini might have said to Tangerine Dream...Nothing is what it seems, mein Liebling. Shut up and listen.

Gordon Deppe, of 80s innovators the Spoons, remains on lead vocals and guitar, experimenting with his collection of effects and toys like never before. Tom Lewis, formerly the musical director with Fefe Dobson and Amanda Marshall, covers the bass-end and back-up vocals, sometimes coaxing synth-like groans from his old beat up Fender. Michael Shotton, of Von Groove, drums, sings back-up and brings his own heavier rock flavor to the mix.

On their debut album, "Five Star Fall", we invite you to absorb Fluid's unique blend of liquid- pop-rock, where lo-fi and hi-fi collide.

"Put your headphones on...and slip into the afterglow..."
