Bio

61, a Brief History

Denver, Colo:

61 was formed in November of 2004 as a songwriting collaboration between Dan Narsete

"I had this idea about contradicting the youth driven sentiment of popular music," Narsete said. "When I met Melle I realized we were on the same page."

"We are based in Denver, however my vision is global," Narsete said. "I think people everywhere want help opening the doors of possibility in their lives. We all are consumed by different forces be it the vector of corporate mediocrity etc. Our music is about overcoming that and the people who help us do that."

Narsete and Johnson met at a business networking event of all places and quickly started planning the initial album. With no band formed yet, the idea of creating a song cycle built around the themes of numerology, quantum mechanics and archetypal images in rock n' roll unfolded.

Narsete played in several local bands in Boulder and Albuquerque. Johnson released a couple of independant singles under his own moniker.

"The music is best described as rock n' roll with a strong mix of late 60's pop," Narsete said. "However, our intention is to go further in a 2 way communciation than any band has had the guts to try."

With that in mind, 61 is spending much of its creative energy on not only creating great songs but also building its Myspace presence (www.sixtyonemusic.com) so it can have a meaningful and fun dialogue with fans. "That is what 61 is about," Narsete said.

61 recruited ace drummer Andy Dana (Race Car God). "A great addition," Narsete said. The band debuted at the Larimer Lounge and are recording at Uneven Studios, a Westword pick for best studio in Denver and their new album ("61") will be released in summer 2007.
