MEET THE ARTIST: Jamarius De’shawn Williams, popularly known as 615 Exclusive, is an adept singer, rapper and songwriter emanating from Nashville, TN. Born in 1996, Exclusive is a dedicated artist that lives above the influence of alcohol and drugs. After releasing his first single ‘Some More’ in 2014, he received a great amount of attention, taking his music career to the next level. In July 2014, his debut mixtape ‘Road 2 Riches’ gained him much recognition within the city and across states. Exclusive is known for his top rated songs ‘Missing Me’ and ‘Words’ and has scored over 2 million plays online. From being a fully independent artist throughout his career, Exclusive was signed to industry heavy hitters The Musiq Committee late 2016. His most recent release is ‘Missing Me (Remix)’ plus more to come. Equipped with a drive for success in the music scene, this up-and-coming artist continues to deliver.
 
Hip Hop Weekly recently caught up with 615 for an exclusive interview! Check it out below.
 
HHW: How did you get your start in music?

615 EXCLUSIVE: I’ve been doing music professionally two years now, but it’s just always been a passion of mine.

HHW: A lot of people forget that Nashville is a music capital, especially for country music. What was it like growing up in Nashville — what was the music scene like?

615 EXCLUSIVE: The music scene is superdope down here, we’ve got some of the best studios in the world. You’re liable to see anybody, any day during the week. It’s crazy, there’s so much energy downtown.  The way the country scene is here is how I’m trying to breakthrough for the hip hop and R&B scene in Nashville.

HHW: Is there a lot of hip hop talent there?

615 EXCLUSIVE: Yeah, it’s a lot of hip hop talent on the underground, and you know, we have Young Buck. There’s underground talent but the only one who broke out was Buck, it’s hard, but it’s possible.

HHW: Who were some of your biggest musical influences growing up?

615 EXCLUSIVE: Being from Nashville, Buck was an influence … Jay Z, Meek Mill … one of my favorite artists right now it Tory Lanez.

HHW: Why Tory?

615 EXCLUSIVE: He’s got the same type of style as me, with the singing slash rapping. He’s just a dope all around artist, which is what I want to be.

HHW: When did you decide to actually make a career out of music?

615 EXCLUSIVE: When I was 17, that’s when I really started grinding.

HHW: What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

615 EXCLUSIVE: Finding my lane. Finding which route I wanna do more, either singing or rapping. Finding my range and my age group… finding myself, really. My music tells a story, it’s for anyone who just loves good music. Old fans and young fans.

HHW: What type of artist do you want to be known as?

615 EXCLUSIVE: I want to be seen as a great artist. I wanna go down as one of the greats but when people think of me, I want them to think of a person who always gives back to his city, makes great music and stays humble.

HHW: What are you most excited about, in terms of your career, for 2017?

615 EXCLUSIVE: I’m just lookin’ forward to seeing the world, making new fans and breaking through as an artist.

HHW: Is it difficult, as a new artist, to get people to give your music a chance?

615 EXCLUSIVE: Honestly, I’m really heavy on promoting myself, and if they hear just a few seconds of it, they want more. So there’s more love than hate. It’s a challenge to get them to listen, but once they hear one song, they tune in. I’m just ready to see what the future holds.

HHW: What would you want to tell all your early supporters?

615 EXCLUSIVE:Thank for supporting me, it’s a blessing. I couldn’t do it without y’all, and I wouldn’t be doing this interview without y’all! So keep supporting! Gotta let them know that everything I do is for them. Shoutout to The Musiq Committee, I just signed to them. I’m ready to take the world by storm.
