"7 MiLE STARE, Loud and Local"

A new Dartmouth-based band is set to turn the East Coast music scene on its ear.
7 Mile Stare has only been around since this past February, but the young quartet – Chris Ricketson on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Mike Cormier on lead guitar, Darren Crandall on bass and Rick Ruth on drums – has already seen their stock rise significantly.
“It’s all happened very quickly,” says Ricketson, who divides his time between Dartmouth and his home in New Glasgow. “We’re all pretty excited about the way things have taken off.”
An early performance caught the attention of local, award-winning producer Dennis Field, who asked the band to appear on the Halifax Plugged-In 9 compilation.
“I think we had, like, four hours of rehearsal under our belts,” Ricketson recalls. “But Dennis liked what he heard and took us under his wing.”
The singer-songwriter describes the band’s sound as rock, with splashes of pop, grunge and alternative influences.
“If you like Alice in Chains or Nickleback then you’d probably dig what we do,” he says.
The band recently recorded and released their debut, independent seven-song EP, Organized Chaos.
“It’s been selling really well,” shares the frontman. “The feedback has been positive and we have already had some serious interest from major record labels.”
However, he notes the band is in no rush to sign a deal with anyone just yet.
“Right now we’re shopping around for a manager who can handle the business side of the game. We’d like to keep our focus on writing strong songs and putting together a solid live show.”
Music lovers can catch 7 Mile Stare in concert on Saturday, October 30 at Monte’s Bar and Grill on Waverly Road in Dartmouth. - The Burnside News
