Bio

81db was formed in April 2006 by guitarist Kostas Ladopoulos. The idea
was to try and bring a new sound by combining melodies and heavy riffs
with folk elements derived from Kostas’ Greek origins. This is music that
challenges the mind and the standards of heavy rock. Every time you
listen to 81db you might end up discovering new previously unnoticed
aspects and approaching the album in a different way.
After a few changes to the line-up, the band finally found its current
line-up, when singer William Costello joined in bringing an alternative
rock feeling and a touch of the American sound to the vocal lines
(William is half American), which perfectly matched Kostas’ (sometimes
crazy) compositions. Filippo on drums and Vieri on bass became the
steady rhythmic base of the 81db sound. 81db finished their first demo CD
at the beginning of November 2006 and that was basically the start of the
project. The response was overwhelming and since then the band has
always encountered great response to their gigs, so to increase the number
of their appraisers, step by step but steadily! Meanwhile, more material
was created and the band started to look for a label.
Various pod casts and local radios played the song ‘Voices’ and got
positive reviews for the home-made promo CD. Comments like
"Extremely Original" "Without musical limits" "Psychotic sound" which
was exactly what the compositions meant to achieve. On Dec. 2007 "Nice
Trip" went to no.1 metal song of 59.330 songs in the US Music
Network, Soundclick. In March 2007 81db along with Fabio Bianchini,
started filming a video of the song ‘Voices’. Craziness and creativity led
to an extraordinary result. Later the web platform Digichannel with rock
videos (and not only) from around the world, chose the Voices Video Clip
to be in their home page. The band kept going and playing concerts to
support their EP in central and northern Italy. In November 2007 the band
signed with a new-born label: Orion’s Belt records. A few months later,
Deep Purple invited 81db to open their Turin concert on 13 July 2008.
The opening for this classic band went beyond any expectations and many
new fans embraced the 81db’s army.
In the meantime, after many successful international reviews to their selfproduced
4-track promo EP, many people had become extremely curious
on what was going to follow up. In June 2008 the band entered the studio
to record 12 tracks which were going to be the final result for their debut
album “Evaluation”.
With their debut CD, Evaluation, out on 20 March 2009 for Orion’s Belt
Records and published by EMI Italy and distributed by Minos EMI in
Greece the band explores the infinite world of notes promising a 50 min.
musical journey that will spur and challenge your emotions, ears and
minds. The album Evaluation is also available worldwide on all major
digital stores and it’s available for Licenses.
81db after the excellent reviews for the album begun touring the UK on
November 2009 with excellent results and great feedback and more UK
touring to follow. Their video “voices” is at Headbanger’s ball of MTV
Greece as well as the important Mad TV music television. The album got
a 9/10 at the Greek Metal Hammer and was voted as the best Album of
2009 on the list of a Greek Metal Hammer journalist. All this movement
made the producer Sylvia Massy (Tool – Undertow, System of a Down
just to name a few) and Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Depeche
Mode ) interested at the project offering
