"THE NEW MUSIC"

We were recently invited to participate in a unique project that David Lewis-Peart had started entitled: “the D’Inner Set.” It is Toronto’s first Online-TV-Dinner-Reality-Talk-show and the show will promote up and coming individuals making movements in the city. While at the shoot, we luckily had the honour of witnessing the raw talent that is Leilani. A home grown talent that has been creating music for the past 10 years, she is on the verge of releasing her mixtape. At first glance, you’d never figure her to posses such astounding talent. But it isn’t until she unleashes her voice that you suddenly realize that you were sadly mistaken. Her voice is raw and filled with the trials and tribulations of life. Upon hearing her perform “Idlewild Blues”, it is reminiscent of a Mary J. Blige/Ella Fitzgerald-esque record. It is her lyrics that conjure up an understanding of her experiences with love and life. This is definitely someone to watch out for in the coming months.

"THE NEW MUSIC"

Class was in session this past weekend as the “new class of Toronto’s sound” demonstrated their mastery of music. It was a showcase of their innovation, and a lesson in what creativity is. And although some may perceive the “88 Days of Fortune” collective as an urban group, this past weekend proved them wrong. Consisting of Ayo Leilani, WolF J, KJ, Brenden Philip, Abstract Random, and T. Ana Cole, their music covers all musical genres. From the out-of-this-world electro spoken word, to the rawest form of hip hop (and everything in between), 88 Days is music. Now, we could continue to put emotions brought on from the performances into words, but we would rather just let the music speak for itself.
