Modern rock band 8 Box brings you a polished, atmospheric and driving sound with their self-titled debut album. The band has a big arena-type sound with strong layered vocals and powerful choruses. The production quality is good and the arrangements are just right for the sound. The musicianship is also very good and the concept of the album is consistent throughout. Overall, this album will remind you of some of the great sounds of early 80's new wave. There are some very creative and innovative sounds accentuating melodic themes on these tracks. Highlights include the opener "Politics and Prayer," pleasing your ears with atmospheric synths and a driving rhythm. "Even or Odd" opens with a wicked guitar riff and features a very "outside the box" arrangement. "Spotlight Fallacy" wraps up the album with a nice floating quality.
