8th Street Stereo

BandRockAlternative

8th Street Stereo blends Acoustic Guitar with elements of Rock, Jazz and Blues to form our own brand of American Music.

Biography

The 4 of us come from different backgrounds so we each bring something unique to the table. Our tastes range anywhere from Acoustic, Singer/Songwriter types to Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass and 80's hair bands. Instead of trying to make music that fits into a category we just combine our talents and personal preferences into quality, American music. We each have our favorite bands.....ranging from Steely Dan to R.E.M., et. al. but having a fondness for their music is where it stops. We don't try to imitate them. Rather, we use them as inspiration in writing our original material.

Shine

The last time I surrendered
Part of me moved on and left a note
Standing after the fallout
Was a side of me I didn’t want to know

Over years I did some thinking
And now it’s starting to show
It’s a hard idea to swallow
Maybe my way’s not the way to go

Never been one to admit things
That make me feel so small
Or question my behavior
It’s a long way for me to fall

Boy you’ve got to be…..Careful
That girl, she’s gonna be
The one who will remind you
Why life is worth living
She’ll hurt you, she’ll rock you
She will make you change your mind
You can close your eyes forever
But her star’s still gonna shine

I will shelter you from all of
The rain that this world throws
Down on you from the heavens
Or fire from the hell that’s down below

I will take as you give sweetly
Things to me I’ll never understand
I will hold on to forever
Giving up isn’t part of the plan

My instinct is to hide out
‘til the problem goes away
But the problem’s only greater
When I’m begging you to stay

Boy you’ve got to be…..Careful
That girl, she’s gonna be
The one who will remind you
Why life is worth living
She’ll hurt you, she’ll rock you
She will make you change your mind
You can close your eyes forever
But her star’s still gonna shine

Talking to a Ghost

Talking To A Ghost ©2006 Cory Threatt

I can’t cut you off
It’s hard to throw the switch
Pretend I never knew you
Erasing lives I’ve never lived

You occupy my mind like
Stories never heard before
The one you never put down
The one’s you can’t ignore

It’s a wonder that I’m able
Somehow to find the time
To breathe the air that you once breathed
Before you changed your mind

In shadowed conversation
I can wrap my mind around
Reasons that make sense to me
They fit what I have found

To be the way that knows me
But it’s harder than the truth
It’s given way to you can’t stay
Because of things that I would do

I’m talking to a ghost
Who’s reading my mind
Getting into my head
To read between the lines
Taking away the thoughts I had of leaving you behind
Talking to a Ghost

In quiet meditation
Stop the swirling for a while
What I’d do to get to you
On my knees I’d walk a mile

When the ground beneath me gives way
To where I’m heading one last time
You’ll wrap your chains around my neck
Pull me deep inside

I’m talking to a ghost
Who’s reading my mind
Getting into my head
To read between the lines
Taking away the thoughts I had of leaving you behind
Talking to a Ghost

Train

Written By: Cory Threatt

Train © 2007 Cory Threatt

She takes the 4:10 from the city
Walks 15 blocks in the cold and the rain
Fumbles for her keys as the wind hits the trees
Why did she ever get off of that train?

At an after hours meeting in Memphis
Where there’s talk about profit, loss and dreams
He starts to believe there’s somewhere else he should be
He should be leaving

When you finally come home for good
I will hold you the way that I should

We will ride all night
There’s nowhere to go nowhere we have to be
It’ll all be fine
Just make sure your ticket will get you to me
Come next time
I’ll make sure that I’m waiting out where you can see
So get on that train and don’t stop

She heard, “All Aboard”, and started running
From all she was leaving behind
She knew it from the start that he was out to break her heart
No, no…not this time

The headlights bounced ‘round in the dark
No trace of her now was to be
He knew he’d finally grown to what she knew he’d become
He heard a long, lonely sound through the trees

When you finally come home for good
I will hold you the way that I should

We will ride all night
There’s nowhere to go nowhere we have to be
It’ll all be fine
Just make sure your ticket will get you to me
Come next time
I’ll make sure that I’m waiting out where you can see
So get on that train and don’t stop

You’re sure to get lost if the rain doesn’t slow down
You’re sure to be gone if the train doesn’t turn around
When the night finds you somewhere to far from home
Just close your eyes and think of being back where you belong

We will ride all night
There’s nowhere to go nowhere we have to be
It’ll all be fine
Just make sure your ticket will get you to me
Come next time
I’ll make sure that I’m waiting out where you can see
So get on that train and come home
