AA Arrowhead, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, brings the best in rock & roll sounds to the American Midwest. With influences ranging from funk and reggae to blues and alternative, AAA’s unique rock sound excites, inspires, and spices up the life of any party in town. Front man Philip Stichtenoth’s raw vocals pack a pitch-perfect punch while Ben Waters, the group’s songwriter, keeps it all interesting with dynamic, groovin’ drum beats and unforgettable guitar riffs.
AA Arrowhead's debut album, Life, was released in December of 2009, and showcases a melding of numerous musical styles all grounded in the fertile soil of vintage rock & roll. With classic rock influences like James Gang and ZZ Top, funk influences like The Meters and Stevie Wonder, and more modern funk rock influences like Maroon 5 and TobyMac, AAA’s Life lifts the spirits, nourishes the soul, and rocks the body.
The title track of the album successfully blends a funk/fusion groove with a catchy, modern rock chorus. The second half of the song is devoted entirely to funky, solo-ridden instrumentation that ought to please any beat enthusiast. "Morning" mirrors the feel of "Life," but in a more funk-oriented way. Vintage rock sounds--infused with rhythmic, percussive guitar playing reminiscent of the style of Joe Walsh (think "Funk 49" and "Walk Away")--abound on "Full Throttle," "False Freedom," "Serpentine," and "Depths." The album's first single, "Speak"--a driving anthem that channels 50's rock, 70's hard rock, and modern alt rock and metal--forms the centerpiece of the song lineup, along with its acoustic prelude, "Never Again." A Jack Johnson/Maroon 5 adult alternative sound with bluesy overtones is predominate on the catchy tracks "Today" and "Only Natural." "Passerby" and "Claborne" round out the album, featuring psychedelic reggae and acoustic singer/songwriter sounds, respectively.
The Virginia red clay soil featured in the album artwork (along with the striking arrowheads found there by Ben Waters’s Choctaw Indian grandfather) underscores the enriching, life-giving earthiness of the music—music that is Authentically American.
