Biography

Developing from Huntington Beach California, Aaron Ellis has a musical style that is at times explosive with in your face melodic guitar runs and then is reined back to a nice and cozy sound that is comforting to listeners of all ages. His audience ranges from middle-aged people who find a sense of worshipful relaxation in his music to teenagers who like to rock out to the sounds of bands like Mars Volta. On Ellis’ debut EP, Soli Deo Gloria (Latin for To God Alone Be the Glory), the guitars are rocking with a warm overdrive, the drums flavor the style at times with complex rhythms and other times lay a solid foundation with familiar yet simple rhythms. The piano drives the song titled “Success” which has an artistic rock sound inspired by Radiohead. The lyrics on the Soli Deo Gloria EP cause people to think about Christian doctrine and the important priorities in life, like salvation and the role of a father within the family.

Aaron and his wife, Jackie, dwell in Huntington Beach California and together they have a one-year-old son named Boaz. With a Bachelor’s degree in music from Vanguard University of Southern California, Aaron spends his time leading worship at a local congregation and writing songs to use in corporate worship settings. He has much to write about and is dedicated to living out the concept of “Soli Deo Gloria” in his writing. Everything he does is for the purpose of bringing glory to God.

Lyrics

Flowing Grace

Written By: Aaron Ellis

I was dead in my own sin
When your light shone through my darkened heart
You removed the scales from my eyes
Now I see your grace that saved my life

Not on my own but by your grace oh God
do I stand before you in your presence
Not on my own but by your grace oh God
do I bow my knee before your throne

When grace flows down like a river you pardon my sin my shame is taken away
When grace flows down like a river you pardon my sin my shame is taken away

By grace I am saved regeneration reveals my souls condition
You brought me to life by your salvation and now I can live by faith

Not on my own but by your grace oh God do I stand before you in your presence
Not on my own but by your grace oh God do I bow my knee before your throne

When grace flows down like a river you pardon my sin my shame is taken away
When grace flows down like a river you pardon my sin my shame is taken away

Even when I was your enemy you saved me you saved me
Even when I was your enemy you saved me you saved me
Even when I was your enemy you saved me you saved me
Even when I was your enemy you saved me you saved me

We Breathe Your Praise

Written By: Aaron Ellis

Gathered together we seek one thing for your glory to shine again
Let your throne be filled with praise as we raise our voices

Here we are everything take our lives for you
Every purpose, every thought dedicate our lives to you

Bind us together and draw us near for the sake of your glory now
Let your people sing your praise and we’ll raise our voices

Here we are everything take our lives for you
Every purpose, every thought dedicate our lives to you
For your glory and the sake of your name we live our lives for you
Glorious wonder forever unchanging we place our trust in you

With one voice we offer everything to praise we breathe your praise
Until the last day comes through everything we breathe your praise

We lift our voices we lift our praise

Success

Written By: Aaron Ellis

Move yourself to set high standards
rushing off to meet tight deadlines
Work for income o’re the yonder
you fight for your right to succeed in life
Your love for fantasy

It all will fade away

You say happiness is found in
treasures stored in your apartment
Measure life’s success in light of
Fancy cars and diamond bracelets

Sigh and know you will succeed

But it all will fade away
It all will fade away

Pushing out the deadlines while your wife is home all alone
And your kids won’t have a father so they’ll grow up on their own
And the cycle will continue till there's no hope left for home
But at least you’ll have your money and you’ll lose your life for more

Sigh and know you will succeed
But it all will fade away
It all will fade away
