Having grown up on Jim Croce, Willie Nelson, James Taylor, Eagles, and Indigo Girls, Aaron Nicholson strives to bring the same gifts that those artists gave him to his own audiences.

At the age of 12 he found a love for the theater that, along with his musical heroes, would give emotional shape to his childhood and underpin all of his artistic endeavors thereafter. Aaron also grew up playing piano and singing in choir, but it wasn’t until a friend sold him an old guitar for 10 bucks in high school that he put poetry to music and became a budding songwriter. His first song was a setting of Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee” to music, which inspired him to set his own dark poetry and write new originals.

Over the years, Aaron’s emphasis in music shifted away from being a catharsis for the darker side of life towards more of a celebration of the intricacies of understanding existence, social/political change, and relationships. His music became about freedom, expansion, and the power of the human soul.

This shift led one fan to write: “Aaron, your deep thoughts have been a godsend as I go through difficult times in my life. In my time of crisis, approached by winds of disquiet and storms of uncertainty, your music has comforted me like a beacon in darkness.”

Aaron has performed as an introduction to Congressman Dennis Kucinich during his 2004 Presidential bid, before a crowd of 2000 in New York’s Union Square in a concert celebrating Human Rights, and countless theaters and clubs.
