"Day 5"

I love this place. Day Five was Dallas/Fort Worth. We rolled into town in the afternoon, and met up with the folks from DMA Solutions (@thecoreblog). We LOVE these guys. Not only did they introduce us to a lot of our awesome backers in the fresh food industry, they also are dedicated to bringing salad bars to public schools in Texas and across the United States. Check it out here:

We met with the DMA team Dan’l (@whynotfresh), Brock (@brocknemecek), Molly (@MollyMcGrath12) and Mackenzie (@untmmichel), who had cold beer and AMAZING food waiting for us. Our backers sent us an insane amount of delicious fruits and veggies. We had cucumber dip and tomatoes and peppers and snap peas and cherries and strawberries and celery and watermelon and Citrines and SERIOUSLY. We were blown away. And we ate a lot. Driving 2,400 miles is hard work – we earned it. I can’t wait to introduce you guys to these growers as we travel across the country. They all have amazing stories, and are excited about the film - and there’s a rumor I might get to ride on a tractor. Stay tuned. In the meantime, we can’t thank them enough for the support, and for the delicious fuel for our trip! (I’m keeping all the Citrines for myself - everyone in the car will have to fight me for them.)
For dinner, Dan’l and the crew took us to Tim Love’s Love Shack in the Fort Worth Stockyards, where we met up with Clara (@ohjustclara), educator extraordinaire and #dailydonkey’s biggest fan. Here are just some of the reasons I love Clara: 1) She is passionate about education and social media 2) She is tiny and bubbly 3) She has a beautiful son who told me goodbye when he first met me 4) She gives great #ff recommendations and 5) SHE AND I HAVE THE SAME iPHONE CASE. And it’s an awesome case. Also, I have to say a big thank you to Clara and her husband – they bought us a tank of gas. Maeby and the crew thank you.
We ended the evening in Justin, TX at The Mule Barn Bar and Grill, where we heard The Aaron Sandoval Band (@aaronsandoval00) play. The music was great, the drinks were cold, and we got to talk to both Aaron and Zac (@zcryer), the bass player who runs the band’s Twitter account. They’re just figuring out the whole Twitter scene, but I’m guessing things are going to get crazy when their new album comes out. (By the way, their album is going to be awesome. Check them out at aaronsandovalband.com)
It was a good day. Thanks, Dallas/Fort Worth. My only regret is that I didn’t have time to buy a pair of boots. - Follow Friday the film

"Take Notice Tuesday - The Aaron Sandoval Band"

I think one of the biggest miss-conceptions surrounding the ever-expanding music industry today, is that all the artists are rich and successful. While not every artist measures their success by the size of their bank accounts, the harsh reality is, being a full-time musician is an expensive gig. For every national artist you see on Cribs or playing to sold-out arenas, there is another thousand out there struggling to make ends meet in the pursuit of their crazy dreams. Now, that's not to say that every band or singer you see is in the poor house, but we as fans have a responsibility to those entertainers. It's our hard earned dollars spent on tickets, merch, and Cd's that drives the business. Just as we all get paid for the work we do, so should these men and women who put in countless hours of behind the scenes work, travel, practice, and studio time, before we ever get to see the finished products. We all love to see our favorite artist put out new music, and with the onset of the social media craze, we as fans, now have greater opportunities to help those projects out. One such artist who is taking this route is the Aaron Sandoval Band.

Coming to light is the past few years, through opening for acts like No Justice and playing the bar scene, the Aaron Sandoval Band is looking to be the next group to find success in the Texas music scene. Aaron got his start by virtually teaching himself the guitar as an outlet for creativity, an outlet that has turned into an obsession of sorts. That obsession has now blossomed into a full-blown passion and career. After finding success with a home studio cut single, Maybe Tonight, Aaron decided to take it to the studio. That's where the fans can come into play. Deciding to go the extra mile, and put in the extra wrench time during production, Aaron chose to turn to a Kickstarter account to finish funding the new project.

Finding themselves as one of the finalists for the 2012 Ranch Factor contest, the Aaron Sandoval Band is positioning themselves to make the step from opening act, to headliner status. A group of talented musicians, with a knack for writing current and relate-able music, I see these fun-loving guys headed for great things.

While we all have things to spend money on these days that occupy our time, take a moment and think about using some of that extra scratch to help an artist reach their goal. Every dollar counts, and we can use this opportunity as a way to say thanks for the time one artist puts into keeping us entertained. This is Texas Red Dirt Roads.

Bio

Aaron Sandoval started this project back in June of 2010 writing and recording songs here in Ft Worth TX. With 3 tunes done he submitted a song to 95.9 The Ranch and quickly became a success on the Texas Toss Up. He won for a week straight and the proceeded to dominate every Saturday night for 5 weeks straight until winning the Showdown along side of 4 other people in the history of the contest.

Shortly after, he started making calls and formed the band. After rotating through several drummers and bass players the band finally solidified. Currently we are now at the point where we are opening for Phil Hamilton / Mike McClure / Charlie Robinson and many other TX country artists.

We are looking to expand our reach and start playing all over Texas and surrounding states. Wanting to make this a full time venture. We have the knowledge and access to make our own records and write our own music and get out on the road. We are currently sponsored by Trenditions L.L.C., Woody's Smokers, and 5Ten Photography.
