BandFolkAcoustic

A dying man's last roll of the dice. Folk with nothing left to lose.

Biography

With his life seemingly fading into the dull monotony of the 9 to 5 racket, sick with broken love and the hopelessness of everything, ABACUS grabbed his guitar and sang his way out of the mire. He left the comfort of his friends, Dublin band Your Arch Enemies whom he'd played with since he was a teenager, to write and sing his own brand of angry, sorrowful folk music. His music takes the sweetness of the american roots tradition and blends it with the righteous desparation of punk and the bittersweet sorrow of the blues.

Lyrics

I Will

Written By: Abacus Dare (Dara Ryder)

Before I start this song is for the birds.
My Actions will speak louder than these words i know.
You're a battered stone, a totem pole, a little plastic diver in a goldfish bowl i know.
I just hope that you don't lose control.

I guess these words won't mean that much to you.
Pathetic that it's all that i can do i know.
You're a closed hand, a one man band, a line a lonely cowboy drew in sand i know.
I just hope that you can keep control.

If i have to shoot if i have to kill i will.
I'll feed the fear till its had its fill i will.
If i have to swallow that bitter pill i will.
Just name your price and we will drag you through.
Open up them eyes and let us peer in to.

I guess i hope you have forgiven me.
I was so ungracious in my defeat i know.
You're an empty cave, a shallow grave, a lonely surfer waiting for a wave i know.
I just hope that you don't lose control.

Farewell, goodbye, i'm getting on the train.
You'll never hear from me in song again i know.
You're black and blue, an autocue, a soldier killing cause hes ordered to i know.
I just hope that you can keep control.

If i have to break in through your windowsill i will.
Your emptyness can feed off my guts till it's filled.
If i have to foot the bill i will.
Just name your price and we will drag you through.
Open up them eyes and let us peer in to.

The Well

Written By: Abacus Dare (Dara Ryder)

Misery is and open plane and I roam around it, kiss and tell.
It's easier to drown in hate than drag yourself out of that well.

When there's nothing left to say I love the way you tap your little feet.

Love is heaven and love is hell and it swallows you up bit by bit.
To give yourself to that tolling bell is the bravest thing that i never did and it's the bravest thing you never did.

If you've had a bad day I’d be honoured if you'd take it out on me.
We'll speak of the things you hate and you can curse and spit and shout and scream.

It's so relentless, this pounding sitting in my lungs
and everyone is looking at me they know something's up.
But they don't say nothing cause it feels so awkward doesn't it?

Fuck it, I’m ready to be bold and brave, to step out of these dead man's shoes.
I swear this is a lonely grave and I swear I’ve nothing left to lose.

When there's nothing left to say I love the way you tap you're little feet.
