"Arts News July 2015"

A Band Called Quinn (pictured) have returned to Glasgow after playing gigs, doing a live TV performance, delivering a workshop and performing in multimedia performance Biding Time at the Cultura Inglesa Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The band appeared on Brazilian TV show Ouca along with Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr who was headlining the festival and led a workshop where they wrote and recorded a song with the participants called Fico Louca Na Lua Cheia (I Go Crazy With The Full Moon).

A Band Called Quinn were booked to play the festival after being part of the Made In Scotland showcase at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival and their performances at Cultura Inglesa were partially supported by Creative Scotland.

"Fresh Faves: Batch 147 April 2015"

Fronted by songwriter and vocalist Louise Quinn, A Band Called Quinn are an artpop band from Glasgow, noting that they “mix up film, theatre & music like space socks at a psychedelic laundrette”. In this case, ‘artpop’ can be expanded to be described as shoegaze or electro pop, while the various remixes (on Soundcloud) of Drive With Your Eyes Closed would happily keep dance floor revellers busy. The band also note their interests as “alien abduction, conspiracy theories, warped realities, and golf”, all of which I concur with, except for the one that ruins a good walk. - Fresh On The Net

"BBC Mixtape April 2015"

A Band Called Quinn are an artpop band from Glasgow, Scotland mixing up music, film & theatre like space socks at a psychedelic laundrette. Drive With Your Eyes Closed is a slice of electropop noir from multimedia performance Biding Time (remix) which features Drag King legend Diane Torr & a giant white rabbit. The show was part of the Made In Scotland showcase last year at Edinburgh Fringe & as a result the band are taking the show to the Cultura Inglesa Festival in Brazil this June. - BBC

"Bow Down to Our Own Quinn of Electropop; Sound Check Drive with Your Eyes Closed A Band Called Quinn June 2015"

SCOTLAND'S queen of sophisticated pop is back with another slice of electro heaven.

A bit Kylie. A bit Goldfrapp. A bit Florence + the Machine. But Louise Quinn does it her own way.

You just have to go to her stage show, which includes a giant white rabbit.

The hypnotising new single is from her multimedia performance Biding Time (remix).

After thrilling audiences at the Made in Scotland showcase at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, she's off to Brazil to perform at the Cultura Inglesa Festival next week.

The world is waking up to the phenomenon of A Band Called Quinn.

The single is out now.

"Song Of The Day - 'Drive With Your Eyes Closed'/ A Band Called Quinn April 2015"

This tune hit me when I most needed a sultry beat to shake off a rough day, and in listening to it, I found it exemplifies itself. Literally driving with your eyes closed brings both exuberance and fear — I should do it; I shouldn’t do it. There is a push and pull in opposite emotional directions. With a driving downbeat this song pushes, with the relaxed melody it pulls. Likewise, Louise Quinn’s voice is full of smooth, rich honey tones, but by the end of the song you have to wonder if it is mad honey, conjuring hallucinations, not what it seems. She sings, “Look out for those wolves in lambs clothes.” With syncopation, electro synths, and a few well-placed lulls, the song succeeded in shaking me loose, and now I can’t stop listening to it.

The band is an artpop group based out of Glasgow, Scotland. The song, it seems, was part of the soundtrack for this odd and exciting bit of theatrical music (or musical theatre? or film?) called Biding Time (Remix) written in part by Quinn, and based on her own experience of being signed to a major label.

"A Band Called Quinn June 2015"

A Band Called Quinn was born of the encounter of singer, songwriter and guitarist Louise Quinn and Cooke Bal drummer in Glasgow in Scotland 10 years ago. During the decade the band has released four albums and had distinguished contributions and Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand and Jarvis Cocker of Pulp. Today, with Steven Westwater on bass and Robert Henderson on trumpet and keyboards, the band is a mix of electronic music, indie rock and artpop, creating playful tracks that are even more amazing with the beautiful voice of Louise.

Now comes the best part: the band is in Brazil for the Cultura Inglesa Festival and will free performances in São Paulo throughout this week. Will have pocket show, workshop, chat and presentations from the acclaimed musical piece Biding Time (Remix) with the band. I had the opportunity to see their first show outside Europe yesterday and say that is worth checking out the live Scottish, they exude friendliness and send very well on stage - Louise ventured a few words in Portuguese and even gave a sambadinha. And, Robert plays the trumpet and keyboard at the same time!
If interested? Then runs there in the Cultura Inglesa site, take a look at the schedule of A Band Called Quinn and account for us what you think.
This way we get the fun video DIY and Forget About It, the trailer for Biding Time (Remix) and a small piece of yesterday's show. - Casinha de Boneca
