Perth’s Abbe May has celebrated the end of her national album launch tour in style with two AIR award nominations and the news that Entourage has used her track “Mammalian Locomotion” in the closing credits of an episode in their latest season.

After recent stints in New York and Europe, Abbe has announced a big final quarter schedule of touring including an extensive list of regional dates with Art vs Science, the national triple j Nick Cave ‘Straight to You’ theatre tour through November, special appearance club dates and iconic festivals such as Meredith, Pyramid Rock, Wave Rock Weekender and Mullum to name a few.

Abbe May spent her late teens and early twenties in Australia’s sleaziest rock venues, busted up studios and unreliable tour vans in various solo and band incarnations. With sly humour, Abbe has graduated from her critically acclaimed early explorations of rock and blues to become a guitar-slinging goddess with an atmospheric cocktail of sexy indie riff-rock, psychedelia and blues.

Abbe’s new album DESIGN DESIRE was released in July 2011 to universal acclaim and also enjoyed feverish radio support for the singles ‘Mammalian Locomotion’, ‘Taurus Chorus’ and title track ‘Design Desire’.

“Abbe May plays a scorching guitar. She is the fucking shit” - Nic Harcourt (MTV US)

“Design Desire, a rock album smarter and tougher than the rest” - Sydney Morning Herald (Aus)

‘Hands down, Perth blues rocker Abbe May has the best female voice in Australia’ - Drum Media (Aus)

“Design Desire oozes quality. Sometimes dominant, often sultry, always haunting, Abbe has perfected the art of dark blues rock on this album. Abbe has set off on an emotive exploration of human desire at its most fundamental level and this raw energy has been faultlessly harnessed for eleven tracks.” - Indie Shuffle (US)

“Lady can shred…..this is all out rock’n'roll interspersed with blues, slide guitar, piano balladry and a sinewy darkness throughout” - Zan Rowe (Triple J Mag)

“Abbe May is set to destroy the entire rock world. Her new solo album Design Desire is bursting with the most righteous and gnarly blues-laced guitar sound this side of the White Stripes and the Pack a.d., drifting majestically beneath honest, take-no-prisoners vocals dripping with tasteful effects. This record is destined to break 2011 wide open with truth-bombs. The proof is in the video for the record’s title track, with an rising scale guitar line, deliciously teased bridge and half-time break down, and reverb laden vocals.” - (US)

“its strange-but-instantly-catchy vocal melody and slow, plodding guitars, reveal Abbe May to a unique presence in the rock world.” - Indies and the Underground (US)

“Design Desire is. Pure, unadulterated, joyous, aural sex ..Each track is something of a masterpiece in rock and roll composition, performance and production.”- RTRfm (Aus) Album of the Week
