Bio

Abbi Rajasekhar is more herself on stage than off. The 22 year old sing/songwriter from Chicago, Il. gets artistic and spiritual inspiration through her performances for any and every audience she finds herself performing in front of. Influenced by her earlier experience in various bands ranging in genre from ska/punk, to jam, to jazz, Abbi's solo acoustic/pop style is eclectic and creates and instant connection with listeners. She released her first album, Anywhere, in November of 2003 while still in high school. The album was distributed nationally in FYE/ Tower Records/ Camelot music stores. Anywhere lead to great opportunities for Abbi, including radio play on regional stations in Michigan, twice playing shows at the world renowned Dance Excellence Festival in Los Angeles, California, and opening a concert for GRAMMY Award winning folk artist Barbara Baily Hutchison. The summer of 2006 was an awakening for Abbi: her first month long Midwest tour. Making beautiful and thought provoking music had always been her catharsis and passion, but during this tour Abbi fell madly in love with her audience. Every show she played gained her more fans and friends who were drawn in by her earnest lyrics, emotional performances, and simply Abbi herself. Her passion is touching people through her music, meeting them at shows and making real, lasting bonds.

After the excitement of touring, Abbi spend the fall and winter of '06 recording her sophomore album, Make Sure, which was self-released in May of 2007. Make Sure is fresh. Fans at shows across the Midwest found resonance with Abbi and the songs on Make Sure throughout her summer long tour in '07. The album shows the musical and personal growth Abbi went through in order to compose each song; the growth she continues to work on tirelessly. Lately, Abbi has graduated college and so has begun playing more shows in her hometown of Chicago at such venues as The Beat Kitchen and The Hideout, a Talent Showcase at Buddy Guy's Legends, and has recently taken up weekly gig's in the Hotel SAX's Crimson Lounge.

Abbi's goals in life are to constantly search and experiment to redefine what her style is and what her best work can be, and to be out of the road playing as much as humanly possible. Abbi's excitement for life bursts out in her music and as long as her songs keep touching peoples lives she'll keep singing.
