Bio

Abel Battery's thoughtful style of hip-hop blends the lyricism of the classic American poetry he studies with the smooth energy of his DC roots. With reflective and brutally honest analysis of himself and his surroundings, he combines complexity with the unique hip-hop sound native to Washington, DC.
After releasing his last album, “Then Comes Marriage”, a look into the bonds between himself and the world, Battery is redirecting his next project. A free release upcoming for summer of 2010 will showcase what he calls “night time music”, meditative music with jazz and go-go influences. With the intention of focusing on the irony of coming from the go-go epicenter yet articulating ambient influences, the upcoming project is going to be a unique direction for Battery and hip-hop.
Battery works closely with the production team known as The Official, named after a Jaylib song. The Official's ambient and percussive style blends well with Battery, and are planning several sub-projects during the summer of 2010 to flood the DC metropolitan area with progressive hip-hop and become well known amongst the developing local scene, which is slowly gaining national attention due to success of rappers such as Wale and Tabi Bonney. By focusing on becoming well known locally, Battery plans to establish DC's eclectic sounds on a national level. The first thing people ask when hearing a new hip-hop artist is “where is he from?”. For LA and New York, amongst other places, a rappers home identifies part of his style. A rapper coming from DC still can mean anything, however. DC's lack of an established sound may have been caused by its location, causing it to be a mesh of southern and New Yorkian rap, but Battery seeks to focus in on the small commonality within all DC rappers.
Receiving praise from G-5 Clive, Toine from DTMD, and Enoch the 7th prophet, Battery is a rising promise for hip-hop. Battery brings realism and honesty to the hip-hop world that many can relate to and connect with.
