Blues Sessions is COLETE’s creative work to date. The whole EP is inspired by Blues Legends. As a beginner musician who is not sure of which genre to be based on, he found a place where he belongs in Blues music.

“I was trying out other genres like Hip-hop, RnB and EDM, but the more I was based on those genres, the more I wanted to sound like someone who is commercially successful and that just killed my emotions as a musician, so I had to go back to the basics”.

Blues Sessions was written and produced by Abilio Colete over a period of 8 months in his studio.

Abilio Colete mid-range voice is featured on “Open Up, Sunday and Walk With Me. Walk With Me, the first song to be composed is a soul track which features the call and response technique in the vocals and its tune will take you back to the time when James Brown was still shouting “Please, please, please”.

Open Up was composed on a keyboard with a programmed drum-pattern and a walking bass-line and as a result it resembles Blues classic tunes and if you’re Ray Charles’ “What’d I say” fan, you will definitely love Open Up.

The third song titled Sunday was conceived from another songs’ drum-pattern (Walk With Me) and the singers imagination of how he would have felt if he was dumped on a Sunday and with the help of a groovy bass-line, he places us on his shoes and delivers a catchy concept. - coletemusic.com

ABILIO COLETE’S BLUES SESSIONS

Blues Sessions, the first EP by producer-songwriter-musician Abilio Colete, unveils a story about an interesting, shy and enthusiastic blues-man whose life is tangled in the mist of love, betrayal, pain and pleasure. But it all began when he just wanted to learn how to play a guitar.

It was in the early 2000s when he was through with his beginners lessons of How To Play A Guitar, that he decided to choose a genre that he could work on, “I was confused,” he says. “I went to the music store and asked for a tutorial book of an RnB genre, the assistant reached for a book titled “Blues Guitar” and she told me, “RnB was born from this genre”, it was not exactly what I expected but I learned the genre and fell in love with the sound.”

His blues sound holds the foundation that was provided by the Blues-Legends like Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Howling’ Wolf. “I remember when I heard Muddy Waters’ sound for the first time”, says COLETE. “It was on the movie Cadillac Records and then I decided to listen to his records and study his Blues”.

His first EP “Blues Sessions” delivers steady bluesy rhythm that resembles classic tunes by Ray Charles and James Brown, which is brought to uniqueness by its creators musical experience and emotional expressions. “I’ve spent years trying to express my emotions on a sound”, says ABILIO, “and the Blues sound is the only sound that allowed me to do just that”.

The first single, “Open Up”, features ABILIO COLETE on vocals, guitar and keys, who combines guitar and keys into a musical element that will make you fall in love with the Blues sound. With compliments of a programmed drum-pattern and a bass-line that adds more excitement to the track.

With no access to a professional recording studio Blues Sessions was recorded in a bed-room studio where the musicians’ ideas were conceived and brought to life.

The first song that was composed for Blues Sessions was “Walk With Me”, a soul track with back-up vocals that any James Brown fan will love. “This melody came to my mind while I was preparing a meal and I just had to stop doing what I was doing and I transferred it to a rhythm guitar and recorded it the next day”, COLETE says, “And when I was done with its lyrics and I was about to record them, its drum-pattern gave me another song idea”.

Even though Walk With Me was the first song to be composed, Sunday was the first song to be completed. Inspired by the singers memory of the day he was kissed for the first time by the girl he claims he still loves, COLETE wondered how he would have felt if he was dumped on a Sunday and as a result, Sunday lyrics were conceived.

ABILIO COLETE’S Blues Sessions is a unique take on the blues and features the walking bass-line that helps reflect the creators’ musical taste and life experiences.
