Abillo

Raised in New York, but now living in Austin Texas (a UT freshman), I am a producer trying to blur the line between DJ and live performer with eclectic and bombastic live sets and feel good, classic dance inspired productions. After studying classical guitar from age 12 on, I moved from instrument to instrument, indulging in every genre from jazz to punk rock. Upon turning 16, like many bored New York teenagers before me, I bought myself an MPC sampler and started producing for local hip hop acts. From there i learned how to sample classic vinyl records and put a modern spin on them. After seeing A-Trak do a DJ set in my home city, I immediately became fascinated on how I could take my hip-hop skill set and apply it to dance music. After endless nights of learning the ins and outs of dance production, I think I have been able to craft a sound all my own, with the same hip-hop ethos that I came to take pride in. I think at the end of the day, Abillo is more about delivering an exciting live show than anything else, and maybe bringing some of the old dance sounds everyone used to love back into the hearts of young people. While my productions generally center around samples of funk, soul, and disco records, I use a variety of sequencers and synthesizers to deliver on the fly arrangements of original and classic songs alike. Never using pre-recorded songs, CDs, or turntables, my live sets center around one principle, and that is creating an experience that is just as unique as it is exciting. I hope you enjoy!
