"Creation to Extinction Album Review"

Abolishment of Flesh – Creation to Extinction (2013)

Hailing from the lone star state of Texas, Abolishment of Flesh are an unsigned classic Death Metal band. Their line up currently consists of Ramon Cazares on Guitars and Vocals, Chuy Camacho on Bass and Robert Ginn on drums.

Album opener Slaves of Animosity kicks off the brutality with a pounding slab of heavy guitars, furious drumming and guttural vocals. There is a strong Katakalysm influence on display here, especially in the guitar work. This isn’t a bad thing however, as the band are able to work with this and create a powerful work of original metal, whilst remaining true to their influences. Second Track, Morbid Imagery takes the music down a different, slightly more melodic route, but still remains as brutal as ever. Vocalist Ramon Cazares hints at a Nathan Explosion/Brendan Small influenced vocal delivery, with rapid fire bursts of guttural screams.

Song three on the album, Inhuman Anatomy maintains the barrage of heaviness, possibly being the heaviest song on the album. While being short, it blasts along, with some thrashy guitar riffs and relentless double bass drumming. There is also a short but tasty guitar solo amongst the heaviness, which works very well. Finally, the album closes with lack of Emotions. With a very melodic opening, this is almost a curveball, but it soon finds its brutal feet and settles down into a powerful slice of Death Metal, with a Kerry King style solo thrown into the mix. Production-wise, this is an admirable effort from an unsigned band, with each instrument given a place in the mix, contributing to a very powerful sound.

For an unsigned band, this is a very admirable effort, definitely worthy of record label interest. It is clear that Abolishment of Flesh are very competent songwriters who know to stick to their creative guns, and by doing so have written a strong Death Metal album, one worthy of attention from any metalhead. If they can continue to build upon this and write consistently good riffs, Abolishment of Flesh are definitely ones to watch for the future, and are certainly capable of big things.

"Get Down"

"Ramon Cazares knows what reputation his brand of music has. “It used to be that people thought it was a bunch of Satanists,” Cazares said. “Now it’s more that it’s more vulgar. We try to stay away from all that.” To his ears, the style of death metal his band, Abolishment of Flesh, plays has a much loftier frame of reference “There are a lot of different things going on at the same time,” Cazares said. “It’s very comparable to classical music.” He’s totally serious about that, however odd it may sound to those not versed in death metal. “We have a lot of weird time signatures and different changes like classical music does,” bass player Chuy Camacho said. “There can be three different things going on in the music at the same time.” “Basically, it’s a subgenre of metal, but more extreme,” Cazares said. “It has all the elements of any style of music out there, but it’s aggressive and angry " - Chip Chandler, Amarillo Globe News

"Songs in the Key of Amarillo"

"These guys aren't in it for the money," said Ramon Cazares, whose band Abolishment plays at The War Legion. "These guys are fans, and not just fans of death metal music, but music in general." That love of music and passion to keep the venue open resonates with young fans searching for diversity in the music scene, Cazares said. "Usually when people come in here, especially if they don't know what you sound like, they have a really good time," he said. "They're just interested. That's all it takes." - Aaron Philips

"Death Metal Underground"

As metal continues to grow in popularity, outsiders to the genre find it more appealing. They see it as an unknown region, or an exotic culture, and in comparison their lives seem drab. What is it that makes hordes of people headbang to violent and abrasive music? This was the question the Amarillo Globe News posed to death metal band Abolishment of Flesh and it received an answer it might not have been expecting. The band painted a picture of death metal different from what is commonly presented in the media: “There are a lot of different things going on at the same time,” [guitarist] Cazares said. “It’s very comparable to classical music.” “We have a lot of weird time signatures and different changes like classical music does,” bass player Chuy Camacho said. “There can be three different things going on in the music at the same time.” - Jon Wild

Bio

Hailing from the High Plains of West Texas, ABOLISHMENT OF FLESH was formed in 2008 by founding member Ramon Cazares. Shortly after the release of their first self-titled release the band started to hit the road.  Despite the lineup changes, the band continued to perform non-stop and release additional music.

In the summer of 2011 AOF went and took part in a two and a half week tour supporting Shawn Whitaker of Insidious Decrepancy.  In 2012 they released an EP titled Decimation. They followed up this release by headlining the Brutal Alliance Tour which included a full 21 dates of shows. AOF continued performing throughout 2012 at various Metal Festivals and show dates from Texas to California.

In 2013 the band again headlined the Brutal Alliance Tour which now has grown into a full 5 week long tour throughout the summer.  They continued throughout 2013 with their non-stop touring schedule including stops again across the mid-west and west coast at various metal festivals.

2013 ended with the release of AOFs second full-length album titled Creation to Extinction.  They already have a busy touring schedule throughout 2014 in support of the new release.

Abolishment of Fleshs new music is a blend of death/black and thrash metal. Although their music is primarily death metal, their style is not limited to one genre; instead the band continues to incorporate various heavy metal styles.

The name Abolishment of Flesh is a concept of how we as humans are our own enemies and will be the eventual cause of our own demise. Lyrical contents include war and violence, disease, corruption, anti-religion, and disasters that have impacted mankinds way of life. Although AOF's violent and grim nature of their lyrics is serious, their main focus is about metal music and creativity. Taking their music out on the road, they strive to not only put on a performance but a show as well.
