"Let Freedom Ring"

Black Friday occurs on a monthly basis @ The Hidden House. It brings hip hop heads, neo soulful singers, and anyone looking for a different night out together in one room to groove out. The night has promised the presence and performance of local emcces and singers. They all brought their dope sounding grooves and energy to the stage. Singers Angelique, KG(about Freedom), Patrice and L Soul each sang their souls out and it was clearly shown. Emcee Sulai did his thing on stage despite feeling a bit under the weather. Rest up homie! Check out pics below from the event. Hit the links to check out each of their individual sounds. It’s worth a listen! TRUST ME! - maincourse101.com [August 2009]

"I Am Not I"
by Juan Ramon Jimenez

I am not I.
I am this one

walking beside me whom I do not see,
whom at times I manage to visit,
and whom at other times I forget;
who remains calm and silent while I talk,
and forgives, gently, when I hate,
who walks where I am not,
who will remain standing when I die.

Our music is mason jars and moonlight, smoke filled nightclubs and intimate nooks. There is a jukebox that hasn't been updated in years. It often gets stuck. The owner comes over with gnarled hands and raps the top of it with his fist 3 times. He walks away with a heavy sigh, muttering "...Dane contraption... 45 years been none but trouble!" Yet he'll never sell it. Even broken and temperamental, it holds his secrets and precious memories. No matter what it plays the bartender yells, "This my Sooong!". She has missing teeth and her face reveals life has driven her hard. Yet she smiles and the twinkle in her eyes make her beautiful.
It's made of sleepless nights and wine, wisdom of the elders and laughter, heartache and trials, guitar riffs and drumlines that pierce as if fashioned by spears being thrown from a man named Ajamu. It is an old friend stopping by, only to spill her guts and cry on your shoulder.
It's nit-picky, compassionate, proud, miserly, optimistic, short tempered, patient, glib, honest, unstoppable, impossible, humorless, surreal, joyful, and witty.

Imperfectly, Wondrously Human.
It's life, liberty, and "about Freedom"
