Bio
This Antillean percussion group brings traditional rhythms, like the tambu, with a modern and (tenacious) twist. The sound of Kuenta I tambu can be characterized as a stylish combination of pop, rock, latin and jazz with traditional Afro Caribbean/ Antillean rhythms. Next to drums and congas traditional instruments like the cajon, udu and the pandeiro play a key role. The group is known for its high energy shows, with a great deal of humoristic highlights, hypnotizing beats, harmonic melodies and dazzling percussion solos.
Their debut CD was released in September 2009 and includes the title song E Kalakuna (the turkey) which was a #1 hit for over 4 weeks on different radio stations on Curaao and Aruba.
Their second CD will be released in November 2011 and will presented at Amsterdam's main pop stage Paradiso. In April the band released the single 'Buchi Pluma', free downloadable from their website, which became an instant underground hit. Their second single this year will be released in summer when the band is touring with two spectacular dancers.
