"The Hype Magazine Interviews w/Abrasive B"

Who Is Abrasive B, and where are you from?

Abrasive B is a Recording artist, and producer who reside in concord North Carolina.

Describe the music scene in your city?

Music scene in Charlotte is really diverse, while most artists here have adapted the trap sound; you also have a lot of creative artist who like to branch out to different styles. A lot of artist in Charlotte focus a lot of critiquing their craft of lyrics and nice hooks. What I like is artist here stick together there’s no envy or jealousy going on artist are determine to work together and put NC on the map.

Describe your style?

Style is very unique, I have been told it reminds people of Mild LL Cool, a Rated R Will Smith, top with a spice of Ludacris while a Gorilla is pounding on his chest. My sound is very energetic, creative, with a nice flow. I try to bring meaning and educational to the table other than my quirky humorous ways I present.

Who and what are your influences?

My major influence is God, Jesus, and my family.

What other artists have you had the opportunity to work with?

I have had the chance to work with Calistylz who is artist for Danja Handz grammy award winning producer for Timbaland as well as, Ramaj Eroc, Freaky Jon P from Love Games, Young Roc from D-Town.

What should people expect from your upcoming projects?

Expect a lot of maturity, excitement, humor, and educational. Expect the truth to be told lots of energy and just overall a different feel from what’s out today. It will defiantly be an upgrade from my last two projects. There will only be 3 guest features from Chicago’s own Ramaj Eroc, Poncho, and Mark Chame a fellow NC Native. You will really get to see the growth of my own production, lyrics, creativity, and flow.

How do you come up with the production for as the sound you want?

Before I record I have to have the beat made, It’s hard for me to just write without a beat so as I make the beat I don’t think, I just go with the flow of what my hands produce on my keyboards its all about the instruments. Whatever I come up with I start mumbling words then create the hook first then just go from there.

What equipment or software do you use to do production?

I take time to create my own sounds, it takes a while but it’s worth it. I use Reason for sequencing, and use the Yamaha Motif, as well protools, for building beats outside of my music.

Will you work with any other producers for your next project?

No I will produce the entire Album again. I'm a very odd artist with a creative mind and I can be very picky on picking production so I usually produce and write my whole album.

What artists are you listening to right now?

Royce Da 5’9, Hopsin, Ludacris, Eminem, Lupe Fiasco & Kendrick Lamar, Erika Badu, Lauryn Hill.

Who would you like to work with in the future?

Hopsin, Future, Joey Bad a$$, Missy Elliot, Kendrick Lamar, Chuck English

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

I am a very spiritually brotha who loves to have fun, and eat chicken wings in the studio and make stuff happen! Also shout out to my sister Deanna Harmon the model. Be looking out for my 3rd studio Album Childz Play which will be released sometime fall 2013. I will release an EP This May 2013 titled “Cause n Effect”. I will be releasing my next single “Greenlight” a video will be release with it the first week of June. It will be available on all online stores (Itunes).

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know...What's your CRAZIEST "Where they do that at?!" moment...

Lol this is funny but my craziest where they do that at moment has to be the time I witnessed this female with a glued in weave wig that came off the top at Walmart. Now where they do that at?

"NFQ Is The Answer"

I Really enjoyed the energy and different sides of life Abrasive B exposed with this album. Definitely deserves some play time in the car, home, or wherever you are. If you are into "real music" from "real artist" NFQ is the answer. There's something on here for everyone, from club bangers to deep thought, and frustration to motivation ( not to mention the hilarious comedy in the skits lol). Hands down Abrasive B has exhibited himself and his music as real contenders in Hip-Hop, No doubt about it. Good Work Abrasive, You 've got a fan - CD Baby
