"Born, Abrupt Edge"

Since when did local rock bands sound this good? Whether it's sudio wizardry (thank you Macintosh) or improve musicianship- or, more likely, a bit of both- this five song Ep is almost shocking in its sonic grandiosity. Not unlike a male fronted Evanescence, Abrupt Edge finds passion in yearning vocal harmonies and crashing waves of ocean sized guitar. Initially, kickoff track "Heart over Matter" recalls Arch Enemy's "We will Rise" before it crawls out of its metallic cocoon and soars into mainstream hard rock territory. Glossy, kiss the sky anthems such as "Change" and "Born" would be right at home on your favorite active rock radio station. (hey,"The X," that means you.) It's tough to pay a band formed in Horseshoe Bend a bigger compliment than that. - Michael Deeds, Idaho Statesman

"Boise Weekly- Abrupt Edge: Born"

In a small-pond town drowning in heavy rock and metal music, it's always a nice surprise when a CD floats up to the top. Born, the newest release from Abrupt Edge, is a great ezample.
Abrupt Edge is Cliff Miller on lead vocals and guitar, Tivon Miller on vocals and guitar, Beau Kolar on drums and Grant Webb on bass. The band has been around in some form since around 2000. They've opened for some relatively big names (Alien Ant Farm, Hawthorne Heights) and seen some recognition. But the songs on their new CD, "Born" may be the ones that really get them noticed.
The first 19 seconds of the track one, "Heart Over Matter," had me a little concerned. Heavy guitar, a tap-tap-atap beat on cymbals and a guttural scream, and I thought, "Great...another band with growling vocals, chunking guitars and painful pounding bass lines." It was at the 20th second, when the vocals morphed into a high, faraway sound that I really started to listen. Yes this CD has some screaming (thought it's pretty minamal), heavy guitars (solos even) and some knock down heavy bass and drum lines, but it also has two things important in making a CD like this stand out: big melodic chords and great vocals.
It's been awhile since I've heard a local CD and actually thought to myself, "Boy, I wish there were more songs on here." The five tracks on this EP are a well-connected, cohesive group of tunes, but I'm a little peeved: It ened too soon. - Amy Atkins, Boise Weekly

-Michael Deeds.

Formed in 2001, Boise-based rock band Abrupt Edge has enjoyed a range of experiences that have taken them from frat house parties to arena shows with well known national bands. From humble beginnings as a bar band, Abrupt Edge persisted through a few lineup changes and thanks to the hard work and dedication of original members Cliff Miller and Beau Kolar, Abrupt Edge has experienced a great deal of local and regional success. With the addition of Grant Webb on bass and Brendan Nickel on guitar, the band has been in full swing the last two years earning the opportunity to play with several national acts and on music festivals such as Warped Tour and X Fest. Since performing at X Fest in August of 2008, Abrupt Edge has performed in 5 states, 20 cities, and over 30 different venues, including 5 different festivals. They've also earned the opportunity to share the stage with countless national acts including: Seether, Sick Puppies, Shinedown, Candlebox, Theory Of A Deadman, Hurt, In this Moment, Red, Earshot, Egypt Central, Hawthorne Heights, Buck Cherry, The Exies, Smile Empty Soul, Alien Ant Farm, City Sleeps, Royal Bliss, Seven Mary Three, and Janus. In the summer of 2009 Abrupt Edge released a new full length cd entitled "Goodbye Till Then" which is in regular rotation on several regional radio stations. "Goodbye Till Then", along with 2007 release "Born", are both available on itunes as well as several other digital music outlets or can be purchased from the band themselves at any of their upcoming live shows.

All of these experiences, along with a lot of hard work and fun go into the music we create. Our music is driven by live energy and our lyrics are inspired by life's experiences. From relationships in “Let Me Go”, or “As Fake As It Gets” to dealing with death in “Goodbye Till Then”. Head bobbing verses and sing-along choruses along with a killer live show bring our songs to life. We enjoy writing, recording, and performing music, and connecting with our fans. As we continue to branch out regionally, we look forward to sharing our love of music with you.

“Born is one of the best demos I’ve heard in... years!”
