Picture this,

A dimly lit studio adorned with all the machinery, studio boards and leather couches we typically expect to find. The twinkling red glares of lit blunts dance in the darkness, while the aroma of sour mary jane tantalizes the air and nostrils. Suddenly a hooded figure enters the room, greets no one, but proceeds into the booth. Standing behind the mic he places his headphones over his hood, he raises his left hand, placing it on the mic while his right rests on his heart, he then promises to; tell the truth, not only his whole truth, but the truth of his hood.

With that oath Ab$o the great released his lyrical testimonial with his latest mixtape; “The Ugly Life” , As an audience we bare witness to the unruffled fluid depiction of a life usually filled with grit and aggression. With this latest project AB$O has boldly represented the home that helped breed him, Brooklyn NY.

By it’s title one is almost led to assume that the song selection will more than likely be engulfed with abrasive lyrical content, partnered with vulgar hooks and the occasional flare of a gun shot in the background. Yet astonishingly each track delivers the severe opposite. Comprised of melodious harmonies underneath tranquilly agreeable leveled tones, The UGLY Life appears to be refreshingly attractive.

Adding to its appeal we can credit its featured producers; Crystal Caines, Joe W., Jay Beatz, Go Grizzly, 2DZ, The Majors, Scott Freebass, & Var EZ, The Ugly Life is given the opportunity to not only win your ear, but dictate your mood.

Not lacking with accompanying talent, Soul calls on some NYC heavy weights to grace some powerful tracks we get the opportunity to hear; Da Young Fellaz, Mook Mula, Krown Royale, G Lloyd, Benze Lohan, PremeDaPrez, Sal Capone, Heartbreak Mellz, Alicia Indigo and Wordsmiff.

Through this melodic testimonial the truth is evident, and the intended purpose is met. The Ugly Life presents itself as the vessel needed to help us reflect. Reflect on where we come from, to our present circumstance, to where we intend to be. AB$O the Great properly transmits his honest caliber, giving us all that he lives and with all that he breathes.

Last year I was put on to a plethora of new and great music from New York. You can say that New York has died but the indie scene is thriving more than ever right now. Ab$o The Great released a few tracks last year that caught my ear and now he’s released his new mixtape The UGLYLiFE. The project boasts features from Wordsmiff, Krown Royale, Heartbreak Mellz, and some other NY artists while having production from Var EZ, JayBeatz, Scott Freebase, and more. Stream it below and start your year off with some good music. - Joe Hova (JoeHovasMF)

Brooklyn’s Abso The Great has been on a steady rise for relevancy throughout 2014 with his freebie singles and partnerships with fellow borough rappers that have been picking up their own respective steam, from Krown Royale to ReQ Cartier, Wordsmiff, and more. With a hefty list of production and feature credits from some of those aforementioned dope borough rappers, Abso drops The Ugly Life mixtape. Don’t let the looks fool you, the conviction in sons bars with these 11 tracks will have you asking for more of the So Great one! Click above and get familiar. - Chad Law

Brooklyn heavy-hitter, Abso The Great, is back with a new single, Point$. I’m voting to have this in the next 2K. Played this 2 weeks ago on Word of Mouth Radio and it had a great response to the listeners, so i’m sure you’ll love this as well. Dopant Beats produced this one here, haven’t heard of him before but i’m definitely going to look him up, I look his sound. - Q. Shepard

One of my favorite underrated artists released a single today and all I can hear are shots being fired. To who? It doesn’t matter. From the production to the message this song is a win. I just hope the visual is super dope because this has potential to be bigger than what he thinks it will be. - Julius Stukes

Coming out of Brooklyn, New York next up is Abso The Great, along with “Dem Nuh Worry We”, the third single from his upcoming album The Uglylife. Abso grabbed features from G-Lloyd & PremeDaPrez for this Reggae-inspired offering and just like ALLiTiZ, it’s different, something you have to respect in 2014. Abso has a bright future and if this new track is a representation of The Uglylife, then we’re in for a treat. - JayHolz

As Ab$o The Great prepares his $o Sincere EP, he gives us a new single that features and is produced by Qu’ality. While this can also be used as a metaphor for the rap game, Ab$o uses this track to talk about the dangers of trapping in the streets and the consequences that you could face if things go sour. He tells a solid story in the verses while Qu’ality provides a soft melody and a gritty voice on the hook. “A Dirty Game” is a great offering from the two and you can stream it below. - JoeHovasMF

Ab$o The Great reminds us about the dark side of the streets with his latest “A Dirty Game.” Produced by Qu’ality, Ab$0 reveals how things go down in a world where anything goes and people do things to survive not just for likes. He is currently working on his $o Sincere project, check out “A Dirty Game” below. - Arlene Danna

Ab$o has a hell of a record on his hands. He put the point$ on the board, now he recently came back with another banger. Ab$o linked up with Qu’ality — who’s quickly becoming a super producer — for, “A Dirty Game”. Qu’ samples Issac Hayes classic record, “Ike’s Mood” and Ab delivers some very real raps. He speaks on those that say they keep it real, until they get jammed in a sticky situation. The grind it takes to make it in the business. Ab delivered with this one.
