Biography

Abyss is a 2x HBO Def Poet. He’s also the first poet featured on BET’s 106 & Park. Nike published his work for their national Urban Survival Guide brochure. Abyss has showcased at the New Orleans Superdome for HBO's Rhyme & Reason Tour, Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn Festival, Summer Soul Jam, the Nu Jazz Concert, 'We Got Jazz' Series, the National Black Arts Festival and 2004’s HBCU Alumni Cruise. Eight years into the Navy, the Detroit native received a tragically rude awakening. The sequential deaths of his mother, grandmother and aunt tested his faith and left him dazed and disenchanted. Poetry became his beacon in that dark period. "Eventually, I found that poetry was my niche. I learned that your mess is your message, but in time, your test becomes your testimony." Since moving to Atlanta, he has fused his faith with his words to create a new genre of poetry and rhythm, which he’s dubbed-Acid Gospel.
