AC Adaptors are a New York City based, four-piece rock band (Billy Lopez, vocals and guitar; Ethan Bassford, bass; Gabi Ferrer, keyboard and vocals; Mario Rojas-Masferrer, drums and vocals) that has been described as an infectious blend of The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Pavement, Joe Jackson, The Replacements, The Strokes, Pixies, and Weezer. After college, Billy found himself back in his hometown of New York in 2003 where, inspired by the recent downtown rock renaissance that had happened while he was away, he decided to form a band to play his ever-growing library of rock compositions--deceptively simple, polished pop arrangements that lighten the weight of relationship angst and indifference that tinge his vocals.
Billy and Gabi first played together in the original incarnation of AC Adaptors, but it wasn't until summer of 2005 when she started adding her memorable keyboard melodies to the trio founded by Billy in 2003. This trio, known as The Gaping Abyss, included Mario, who had also gone to college with Billy. Mario's dynamic, New Wave influenced drums clicked perfectly with Billy's ingenious knack for guitar hooks and original bassist Chris Cumming's razor-sharp lines. Chris's departure led to the band's current line-up, with Ethan expertly executing Peter Hook inspired, droning-yet-melodic bass lines.
AC Adaptors drew over 100 people to their shows at the Knitting Factory's main stage in the summer and fall of 2004 and frequently play to packed rooms at Arlene's Grocery, Pete's Candy Store, CBGB and other popular music venues around NYC.
